i'm starting off with-I AM a virgin-not pregnant. I've had my periods regularly for about a year and now I'm two weeks late and my right ovary hurts. i'm thirteen and I told my mom and she says it's nothing-well what if I go another month without a period??? What do I do then????? Sometimes my breast will hurt and under my arm. I know that cancer is rare for someone my age but how rare?? My mom thinks that it's impossible for me to have health issues. She won't take me to the doctor!!! But I really want to go and there is no one else to take me.

First of all, it IS NOT UNCOMMON for your periods to be irregular if you had your first period only a year ago. Please DO NOT let some of these people scare you. It is most likely a hormonal issue. But, I do agree that you should see a doctor if for no other reason than to alleviate your fears. Good luck to you, sweetie :)

I agree with the posters who said to talk to your school nurse. Most cancer does not hurt. It is much more likely that your hormones are out of balance. I had the exact same symptoms when I was your age and a hormone imbalance is what it was. The Dr put me on hormone pills for three months and that seemed to straighten everything out.
The Dr needs to check and make sure you don't have an infection, too.
The school nurse will get you the help you need. Feel better soon.

This is something you need to get checked out. Ovary pain could be nothing more than a cyst or it could be something serious. It is possible for a child to have cancer. My 5 yr old son is a survivor. Could you talk to the nurse/ health worker at you school? Explain your situation and see if they can help you convince your mom to take you to a doctor.

In my case when I was your age I always had irregular periods..2 in one month or none at all..both me and my twin...we were put on birth control at 13 and was told it should help..well it didn't and at the age of 19 I had cervical cancer! a partical histo was done on me and have had problems ever since...my twin had ovarian cancer at 35 and had a full histo...so see don't listen to your mom!...go see your school nurse or another family member if you can and don't wait..cancer has no age limits.....insurance or no insurance you should be seeing a doctor every year for check ups..

Without wanting to offend you, I have to ask - are you significantly overweight or underweight?
The reason for the question is that if you are significantly overwight, you may have polycystic ovary disease (also known as Stein-Levanthal syndrome), which may explain your problem.
Alternatively, if you are very underweight (perhaps due to an eating disorder), that may also explain your recent loss of periods.
In any event, this needs to be checked out by a doctor. Tell your Mum I said so!

You could have an ovavian cyst. That is not uncommon in girls your age. Skipping periods is not unheard of too. I would ask for a checkup. Insist with your mom. It would be good for you to get the Gardisil immunization anyway (to help prevent cervical cancer).

Bring it up to the school nurse. If the nurse thinks there is a problem, she will talk with your mom. Is there another adult in the family you can discuss this with?

Talk to someone at school or to another relative, the symptoms you are having are not normal for anyone and could be serious.

speak to your school nurse immediately. The lumps are most likely swollen lymph nodes which indicate tht your blood's fighting something serious. I love you even if your mom doesn't get well....
