I had a wonderful sheppard named Joe who lived to the ripe old age of 16. Loved that dog!!!!!!!

my first German Sheperd lived till she was 13, thats about the norm

It really depends on how you treat it. If you feed it well, give it love, take it for some walks, then it will probably live ABOUT up to 12-15 yrs.

I already had 1, that one lived up to 14. We bought 2 more now, one that's 3, and one that's 1. There both really healthy and got there shots so i think they should live long. Good Luck with yours!

The normanl life span of a German Shepherd is 12- 15 years. Care, Vet visits, and nutrition make a difference.

The German Shepherd lives an average life of 10-12 years. Treat them right feed them right get fixed, get there shots and they will live longer

A very knowledgeable working-dog breeder native to Germany once told me:

3 years a young dog;
3 years a good dog; and
3 years an old dog.

From that I learned several things:

We tend to push too hard too fast;
We tend to work the dog too long;
We tend to not allow our dogs the retirement lifestyle they have earned.

So to your question: about nine years (many longer), train 'em young, give him a job, let him enjoy his older years at his own pace.

My Dachshund is almost two and a half working-dogs old.

I think a German shepard would live less than an American shepard because German sheep are much more aggressive!! lol

About 10 to 12 years, but often their hip joints start to degenerate around year eight.
