twenties. There are so many things I want to do with my life but the depression holds me back. I've developed bad habit such as procrastination, low motivation, can't think clearly, can't focus and therefore make bad habits. I'm a little slower in decisions, thinking and taking action.
please give suggestions on stopping depression and activities that i can get involved in besides counseling.

In all of your posts that I've read, I've never seen any mention of whether or not you're taking medication. Counseling is only one facet of dealing with depression. Medication can sometimes be the only answer. Medication plus counseling is usually recommended, but counseling alone is not going to help if you have a chemical imbalance, just like diet alone doesn't always reduce cholesterol and diet alone doesn't always control diabetes. Medications are formulated for different types of imbalances and depression is no different. Don't pay any attention to the people who say, "Get over it". They're uninformed and hurtful.
But some of the recommendations that have been offered are good ones, like volunteering and getting out. Fresh air, an appreciation of the beauty around you and the needs of others are all methods used to help to lift ones mood and outlook.

Well you need to get out, and see more people , and since you know that you are procrastinating then you know that you need to quit doing it, so work on that, so you are not doing it anymore. same with the low motivation, the only way you are going to get motivatied is by getting up and trying to force yourself, each and every day. I am not going to tell you that it is easy cause it is not, but if you keep at it them you can beat it, same with the other bad habits that you have picked up.
Also do things to keep your mind sharp, and active, and working.

You have diagnose and indicated all your problems and you also said what you need to do.

Start with small steps.
Set a reasonable goal say 30 days.
Start talking to yourself about all the positive and good things that you are and do.

To set a goal, ask yourself this question "On the last day of my life, looking back many years from now, what will I want to have accomplished.

You can only accomplish something if you take action.
One step, one day at a time do something toward your goal.

You and I are living the exact same life. Though I am medicated and see a therapist. And it gets better, just a little and on some days I can't even see a difference, but when I look back at how I was in April compared to now. Wow, big difference.

Make yourself a strong cup of coffee to get going, then sit down and start making a list of all the fun things you would like to do in your lifetime. Use your imagination and create some goals you can look forward to, but be realistic. Maybe you want to own a salon or visit India...or just paint your kitchen. Find a project you can start on today that will get you excited. Teach your dog a new trick, cook something weird, or just get glammed up and go window shopping. Anything you want, just don't sit around and mope.

Depends on your health preferences. Some people can read about depression, take herbal supplements, add exercise and change your eating habbits. You can do a lot of research online for more tips. Personally I had to keep myself busy, even though I was miserable and wanted to crawl in a hole, I had to rely on my support system to push me into activities and I hafta take medication. If you have any other questions, lemme know via email. krisa1981@yahoo.com

Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and the only treatment is medication prescribed by a doctor. I've tried exercise, herbs, positive thinking, diet and prayer and nothing works for me but medication.

There's a good book you can read called "Real Magic" by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. He teaches you how to achieve happiness, health, success and prosperity in daily life through positive thinking and action. This in combination with medication has helped me tremendously. Perhaps you can find some good ideas on how to achieve happiness. Good luck!

DONT!!!! Stay in the house.... GET OUT...
Staying inside makes it worse and can bring you down more..

Any activity that you enjoy and keeps your mind active can help...just think of different things that you like to do and get determined..

Call your friends and hang out with them or go somewhere with them..Just be around people..This will make a difference..Try and forget why you are so down and laugh and have a good time..you will feel better afterwords..

Try not to think about the negatives or what makes you down,,think about positives...

Tell yourself everyday that you can do this, you are going to have a great day... hope this helps...

"besides counseling"?!?!?
What did you think you were going to get, here???

If you have time to sit down,
log onto a computer,
and tell perfect strangers of your "dreadful" existence,
then you have time to do something for others,
if not yourself!

Volunteer your time at a library, animal shelter,
old-age home, town clean-up committee, Peace Corps,
Habitat for Humanity, and many, many more!
(refer to the links, below;
if you had listed your city and state,
I would have given you more specific info)

Although I find such noble acts of altruism reward enough,
seeing others who truly need help
may make you feel better by comparison,
not to mention that you may meet people
with whom you have something in common,
and take it from there.
