Autumn officially starts from March 1 to May 31
You probably know already that autumns temperature can fluctuate from warm to cold erratically. The temperature in Canberra can varies from warm days (mid 20's C) to cold nights (close to 0º C) with frosty morning start occurring anytime around mid March very possible. It gets colder as it progress towards winter of course. By May - some nights can, but not regularly, goes down just below zero but the day - if sunny - can still go up in mid teens.

Pleasant weather but one should never leave home without a jumper - just in case.

Well we had a slight frost this morning in Canberra which indicates an overnight low of 0C or just below. But that is the first one for a while. I'd anticipate 18 - 22C maximum today. By the end of November it will be warm most of the time, maybe 15 - 22C overnight, up to 32C or more during the day if sunny which it usually is. Autumn is the reverse.

It depends what you're used to of course. Autumn is, I think the best season in Canberra, particularly early in Atumn (March and April). Expect temperatures to a maximum of between 17C (65F) and 25C (80F). Nights are cool to cold and you might get a few frosts as early as mid-April. But usually expect the minimum to be around 5 to 10C (40 to 50F).

Dressing in layers (e.g. with tops you can take off if it gets hot) is the best trick and if you're going to be outdoors in the evening a good warm coat or jumper/pullover is essential.

Edit: One thing though KK, from one of the other answers you might want to clarify if you mean your fall or ours (It's spring time here now). Much the same as autumn but usually windier and not as much colour.

Western Australia is cooling, North Territory - best month to flee their generally steamy climate. definite, we nonetheless swim even in NSW - so in case you're in Queensland, this is going to be warm sufficient for swimming and scuba diving. We have been swimming there in July. Tasmania is the sole state the place this is getting too cool, although South Australia and Victoria would be commencing as much as get cool. I used to swim in New Zealand in might - phew, it grow to be chilly nevertheless.
