Yes you do need a good standard of unassisted vision. You are also allowed to wear glasses or contact lenses. You should contact the Civil Aviation Authority for details about the medicals that need to be passed to become a pilot. They set the minimum legal requirements. Some airlines may have stricter requirements.

What kind of pilot? The military only allows you to START flight school with only with 20:20 ... but allows you to continue as a pilot if your vision is correctable.
Private pilots and airline pilots are allowed to fly with correctable vision. Private pilots may even be allowed 'a bit' of color blindness, though they may be limited to day time flight only. The best way to know is to find an aviation medical examiner and get a flight physical ... they can tell you right away! Take a look at the FAA website -- FAQ

John B is absolutely correct if you don’t know the answer or won’t provide a reference document, web site, or other support information don’t guess or make a smart-*** remark. At the very least provide us with your source.
There are many good web sites to find the information the best one to answer these questions is the FAA’s site.
http://www.faa.gov/pilots/become/
http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/medical_certification/faq/
The medical standards for each class of medical certificate are set forth in 14 CFR Part 67. This is available at the FAA web site under FARs.
The following conditions are listed in the regulations as disqualifying medical conditions; however, in many cases when the condition is adequately controlled, the FAA will issue medical certification contingent on periodic reports.
Angina pectoris
· Bipolar disease
· Cardiac valve replacement
· Coronary heart disease that has been treated or, if untreated, that has been symptomatic or clinically significant
· Diabetes mellitus requiring hypoglycemic medications
· Disturbance of consciousness without satisfactory explanation of cause
· Epilepsy
· Heart replacement
· Myocardial infarction
· Permanent cardiac pacemaker
· Personality disorder that is severe enough to have repeatedly manifested itself by overt acts
· Psychosis
· Substance abuse
· Substance dependence
Transient loss of control of nervous system function(s) without satisfactory explanation of cause. Other conditions not specifically listed in the regulations are also disqualifying.
You will notice vision is not listed as it can be corrected. Do your homework by spending some time at the FAA web site.
