I agree with fognearcoast.
No alcohol, it stings like hell and doesn't really kill a lot of germs because it's not used properly. For alcohol to work it must dry completely and dehydrate germs. Betadine kills like 90 % of germs on contact, and 98-100% overall. If you have a real bad laceration, I'd scrub it out as well as soak it in water with betadine. Betadine is the reddish brown stuff they use in the hospital. AKA povodone iodine. Some people mix 3 agents, water, betadine, and peroxide. I was told by a doctor peroxide is a waste and only good for getting blood out of your clothing....so.
Keep neosporin or other antibiotic on it for a few days until it's starting to heal.

Hi, there. I agree with the respondent that said to use soap-based betadine. It's effective and non-irritating to the skin. DO NOT USE Hydrogen Peroxide, as it actually kills newly formed skin cells and can delay healing. It works great as a mild disinfectant for counter tops, but should never be used on open wounds. If you're in an environment open to integrative therapies, cleansing wounds will a combination of aloe vera, tea tree oil and lavender essential oil is more effective and less irritating than any mainstream wound cleaner. These three agents are anti-bacterial, -viral, and -microbial; are analgesics; and help the body to quickly generate new skin cells to heal itself.

Depends on where the cut is...
Certainly not formalin , cresol, and sodium hypochlorite, for human tissues.
Isopropyl alcohol and betadine or savalon are best for wounds. In case of eyes normal saline is the used, to which an antibiotic solution has been added.

cleaning out wounds, depends on whats available. good old soap and water, and depending on the severity of the cut, anti-biotic ointment with bandage.
Next, something like bactrin, betadine, or another sterile surgical soap made for cleaning wounds. Once clean, bandage up to prevent dirt and bacteria from getting back in.
Good and basic. I'd say definite no to the things you mentioned.

Ordinary soap and water will do and if you have a disinfectant like Dettol that's ideal - but clean it first with soap and water. How was the cut made - was the object dirty or rusty because i would advise a tetanus jab.

Saline.
Peroxide.
Betadine.
Commercial wound cleansers.
IF you are putting sodium hypochlorite into wounds, you need help...assuming the person with the wound isn't going to kill you immediately afterward.
Isopropyl Alcohol is rather a bad thing for wounds, too.

Hydrogen peroxide works best beacuse if foams, & this action floats dirt or whatever is in the wound, completly out.

wash with soap and water, Pat dry. coat with a light layer of antibiotic ointment, about as thick as you put on chapstick/lip balm, and cover with a band-aid.
