Have you actually read books like the bible?
They are so enitrely out of touch with reality and our basic scientific knowledge today that there are only two options. The first is to intepret the bible, in which case there are no absolutes and everything can change. The second - and what many choose - is to entirely irrationally dismiss everything that disagrees with the bible.
The latter is plainly an absurd position to take, and is entirely incompatible with logic. However, this does not stop people -even some involved in science. These people either simply ignore facts, or exercise double think (ie beliving two entirely contradictory positions, depending on need).

It doesn't. That is no different than if I were to say Why do non-believers close their minds to reality? And quite frankly you are only insulting others. Religious people are not as stupid and delusional as you like to pretend they are, does insulting the intelligence of others make you think that you are smart somehow? Grounded in reality somehow?

I don't think religion closes your mind. Anyone can have an open mind, regardless of their religious beliefs. If you have an open mind and are very inquisitive, you may find out things about the world that challenge your faith. You may find your faith is only strengthened by the information you have gathered. It's all up to the individual.

It doesn't. The human mind is universally closed to reality. Religion sometimes provides the tool. The lack of religion sometimes provides the tool.

They don't all. Many religions are quite compatible with seeing reality as it is. However, some would insist that they have a corner on reality, and anything that contradicts that is from Satan or an evil spirit of some sort.
To me, you have to see reality before you can change it, if change is your goal.

Religion creates order for that I believe it has worth. It keeps the sheep from falling out of line. It helps the people when they are down it prevents those from commiting horrific crimes (sometimes) but it does segregate the congregations. The problem is that each person opens his holy book and interprets it according to his or her own suiting. I agree there is a higher power looking over us but I believe he/she wouldnt have been so selfish to say all the christians to the left..the buddists muslims and others over to the right. I do not love you guys to the right. Impossible if this higher power has any humanity in his/her heart or consciousness. So I agree religion closes the mind for sure.

Actually, properly pursued, religion can open your mind to a greater reality. There is more to reality than what we can see.... can you see an atom?
In addition, religion can help you understand suffering and evil as well.
It's all in how you approach it. If someone just wants an easy approach to life - a shallow one, sure - religion can give that to them. But once you delve into theology, or even just into the less complicated "WHYs" of religion, you can grow deeply.
We Catholics call it 'conforming one's conscience'. It can be very challenging intellectually, especially when we our discovering a truth that we'd rather not know or deal with.

Which reality did you mean: the outer physical reality, or the inner spiritual reality? Being open to both physical reality and spiritual reality is being open. Being closed to one or the other is being closed. Physical reality and spiritual reality are complementary realms of knowledge and both are parts of the whole of knowledge. Why be closed to either?

I'm not terribly fond of 'religion'. It is related to the Pharisees who only kept the law, and the subsequent requirements of tradition. So in that aspect it does close your mind to the reality of Christ's work, and that you cannot 'do' anything to earn it.
Now, if you instead speak of those who deny God because they cannot touch Him like they can the wind (which is also unseen by the naked eye), then I say the opposite. Why do those who only believe in the material things they can touch, things that are proved to only be corruptible, close their mind to God, who is above all, and is incorruptible?
Actually, I know why. They are blinded by their own heart, which seeks to be a god unto themselves. A god THEY can control. A god of their own mind.

Why does *your* religion close your mind to the reality that science has only proven a fraction of existance?
Honestly, atheism takes much more faith than my religion does.
