The US did not officially entered the second world war until the Japanese Navy bombed Pearl Harbor.
At the time Pearl Harbor was attack, the US sent its ambassador in a diplomatic mission to make sure that the war will not have any involvement of the US and to make a peace deal between US and Japan. However, before the deal was made, the Japanese had attacked US Naval Base Pearl Harbor and the next day President Truman ask congress to declare war against Japan. The involvement of US in world war 2 against the NAZY was because there were many US Citizens being targeted in ships that was sunk by German Submarines, in which our involvement became a circumstancial involvement.

Hello, America did not have to aid Great Britain after Pearl Harbour it had it's own war in the Pacific against the Japanese.Churchill had asked America many times into coming to our aid but each time refused but did supply us with provisions etc for which took up till the year 2007 to pay back. Not until the sinking of the Lusitania a passenger liner carrying children and many Americans, did the American public sway towards fighting a common enemy.Who knows what political reasons after that made the two country's unite many books have been written and many questions asked.Did they help because we paid for the war or was it an act of friendship. Why has many reasons .

The United States tried to stay out of the war while helping the Allies with the "Lend Lease Act." We were giving Ships and supplies to England and Russia in 1940.
We were negotiating with Japan to stop their aggression in the east, China. The Japanese would not stop which put us on a collision course with them. The US imposed an embargo on raw material going to Japan.
The Japanese, without a declaration of war attacked the US at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
On December 8, 1941, president Roosevelt in a speech said something like, since the Japanese attack on US forces a state of war has existed between the United States and the Empire of Japan.
Germany then declared war on the Unites States.
We were in he war.

The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, Hawaii.
The Americans declared war on Japan.
Germany as an ally of Japan, declared war on the USA.
The USA then declared war on Germany. Although not in the war directly, the Americans were already supplying the UK and her allies with food and equipment and had replaced a British garrison on Iceland with an American one in order to free up UK troops for other theatres and to prevent the Nazi's controlling the Atlantic, so they were already involved in the war in a small capacity before then. Pearl Harbour just made it official.
That about sums it up in four simple sentences.
Far too many online websites and encyclopedias on the subject for me to bother listing and lifting from.

Britain , this tiny Island was the only one to stop the Nazis taking over the world The US an English speaking nation with strong ties to Britain knew they need help but did not want to get into war. They helped by giving war ships, tanks planes etc. Then they were attacked by Japan so they jolined in to fight the Japs and also to fight the Germans

America wanted to get involved in the war much earlier than they actually did but the Americans felt that it was not their war. They sent food and arms to us, at a price, and they supplied Russia with arms. It was only when Japan carried out a surprise and unprovoked attack at Pearl Harbour that they were forced to join the war. It was a jolly good job that they did as the result would certainly have been different had they not done so.
