Our family's shepherd has been acting odd the last few weeks, he is becoming more aggressive nipping at the kids, chasing cars and and acting as if he doesnt know who we are until he right on top of us. He has never acted this way before and has always been gentle and calm. Should i be worried for him?

My Shepherd/Lab got this way towards the end. She would sit with her back to the corner looking out into the room like she was on guard. She didn't mind us near her, but didn't really know us. My vet said it was dementia, and they get paranoid. It might be time to see the vet... I'm sorry.

How old is this dog?
If he is really old (above 10 yrs), he could be suffering dementia.
A lot of people seems to think that above 5 is old, but it is not. You probable ought to have him checked out by a vet.

yes, it sounds like his eyesight and/or hearing might be going. He also may be experiencing some senility.

You should take him to the vet for a geriatric check up.

I think he is getting old and losing his memory? My cocker spaniel did that, she would just take off walking like she didn't know where she was, she also was losing her eye sight. It's very heartbreaking.
