While Open Office is a great office program, might as well get the latest and greatest, Star Office, from the same folks who brought you Open Office. Sun Micro will sell it to you for $70. But you can get free from Google.

The "Microsoft thing that came with the computer" should have been the trial version. You should just be able to activate it with a Web link.
Otherwise, Google "Microsoft Office", and someone should have a download-able version. Good Luck.
http://www.microsoft.com/en/au/default.aspx has a link to "Downloads & Trials" That should do it!

Why not forget MS Office altogether and try Open Office instead? It does everything MS Office does, and works just as nicely, if not better, is less processor intensive, less prone to hacks and exploits, and is FREE :)
Check it out at: http://www.openoffice.org/
That should do the job for you !!
Cheers
