Has anyone tried Alton Brown's steak that he cooked directly on the charcoal?

No, I haven't, but I have another cookbook that calls for the same thing, they call it 'dirty steak' and it was okay. I hate the charcoal-y bits that get stuck to it and crunch in your teeth.

Alton's a genius-- I love his shows, but I ain't making any avocado-flavored cake frosting, either.
