Taste, nutrient, or what? What do you use it in conjunction with?

nothing is the best answer....as you don't get calories or fat from nothing. Butter tastes better and if your cholesterol is ok in moderation it's nicer. Butter and Margarine have the same amount of calories but butter usually will have more saturated fat. The best is oil, like olive oil and canola oil. They actually lower your cholesterol levels.

If you like toast, try spraying or brushing a slice of Italian bread with extra virgin olive oil and a little bit of salt and then pop it in the toaster. It's really nice with fresh garlic rubbed on it, or vegetable toppings such as roasted peppers or eggplant.

Always use oil in cooking unless there is a reason for the butter (where you still need to taste it) as you won't be able to tell once the dish is made.

I even substitute butter with oil in muffins and cakes. Olive oil if they are savoury and canola oil if they are sweet.

If you're healthy though you can have any of the above in moderation.

Butter, hands down. Leave a tub of margarine out and the flies won't even touch it.....that's because it's artificial.
I love butter on bread, in potatoes, when I cook my eggs, possibilities are endless. It makes everything taste better.

In the long run, butter is actually better for you and tastier than margarine. Just watch Paula Deen on the Food Network Channel if you don't believe me. Butter is her favorite food!

Butter has much more flavor than margarines. I love to cook so only butter will do.
