Microsoft office is one of the most expensive microsoft produces.
although its office 2007 is the best work organizer i have ever seen, but i'll suggest if you dont spend a lot of money just for some basic or intermediate level tasks...instead you can get free software which does same task and opens files with extension...(almost 80% similar in functionality with MSoffice).

It is called "OpenOffice" it was made by Sun MIcrosystems..
I am not sure where u can get it from..but a search with its name will surely have direct download links....

Hi,

Microsoft markets various combinations of office products in different packages. They are available as individual programs or as Microsoft Office.

FrontPage no longer exists. It has been replaced by Expression Web, and is now Windows only instead of Mac & Windows.

Office packages start at about $125 US for Student/Teacher editions (same software but lower price) and go up depending upon the bundles you want.

If you only use Office products on rare occasions some people get by with Sun Microsystem's OpenOffice or one of its offshoots. Although not completely compatible, it is capable of opening many Office documents and can save files in office formats, although the documents won't necessarily look the same as they did in Microsoft Office.
