Cheapened as in getting the car into victory lane consistently ? Well the 3 and the 43 where once consistent ,but not any longer .However the 43 I believe will be back in victory lane before long with the combination of Bobby & Doug Randolph and they will be a threat week after week .As Bobby has finished in the top 10 the past 3 week's.

As for the 8 and 21 . I don't feel that Jr has ever been a consistent racer and I can't recall seeing the 21 in victory lane but a couple of times since I became a Nascar fan in 93 .

I can't see the 8 in victory lane in 2008 and beyond .If they do it will only be a couple times. Mark's racing day's are pretty much in the bag and Aric is a newbie . The 21 I don't feel will see any win's with Bill Elliott ,as like Mark he too has seen his better day's.

Although Nascar says a number can't be retired I don't think that we will ever see the 3 back on the track again .

I wouldn't use the word "cheapened" but these cars haven't seen victory lane in a long time have they. We have to think also, that maybe someone will get in those cars that will make a difference. I think the 8 will be great again, but the #3 probably won't be used again.

Not sure what is meant by "cheapened" unless it's referring to souvenir sales. The 21 & 43 were made great by David Pearson and Richard Petty - nothing cheap about them.

The 8 yes, but not the 3.

More than likely yes.
As the sport progresses these numbers will be a thing of the past.
I use to watch Cecil Gordon in the 60's and his number.24.
So all numbers will over time change their importance in the sport.

In a couple of years the only people that will care about the number eight will be the people who have it tattooed on their arms now. What were they thinking?

I really don't believe anyone, even "the widow", will think about putting the #3 on a car for years.
