Yes most likely your teeth did move that's why the retainer doesn't snap all the way in to position. SOMETIMES if it goes in a little and you continue to wear it it may push the teeth back because as you can see the retainer is in the shape of your teeth at the end of treatment. You should plan on your teeth being sore but that is expected because they are moving. Also it is important to remember the longer you wait the your chances on them moving more is almost definite. Since you should wear your ret at night for as long as you want your teeth straight its best to fix now. I did braces for 9 years and I have seen it a million times!

Is this a fixed retainer? One that is attached and doesn't come out. If so, you will need to have your dentist or orthodontist repair this, it will need to be recemented.

If it's the removable type, depending on the type, you should be able to place it back in unless you've bent a wire or chewed the plastic. You may be placing it in wrong, take a closer look at it when you put it in. Your teeth don't move over night, or cause your retainer to pop out.

You probably just bent it some when it fell out. Just bring it back in to them, and they will adjust it. Dont wait to long though, because other wise they will start to shift.
