This is purely a logical type question so please remove any moral belief from it please. Back before legal abortions on demand there was a phrase called "if you play you pay" meaning if you had sex and the girl got pregnant then both parties would be stuck with the baby, either by marriage or child support. The US Supreme Court said that women are the only ones that can chose to have an abortion or not because it is their bodies and is a matter of privacy. It is HER choice to have a kid. If the man wants it but she doesn't the man has no choice if she aborts. So why then, if it is HER choice to have the baby, does the man have to pay child support for her choice? It was HER choice to have the baby so why should the man be stuck with the ramificatins of HER choices, after all, it was a private matter and HER CHOICE?

Thanks to all of you that have answered so far. I feel some clarification is in order. First I am married and have two kids with my wife. I am only asked this question because the logic of the laws out there bothered me. I am not putting down those moms that are alone and not getting the proper support from the father. This is just a simple question. Thanks again!

Ok, I know I am supposed to leave out my moral beliefs, but I am not for abortion. (won't go into more detail there) I do however realize it isn't going anywhere soon. I strongly agree with you about the man not being involved in the decision. I mean there is no way that he could force/make/decide for the woman to have one, but at the same time it is not fair that if a woman doesn't want the child she has an option and the man doesn't. I really think something should be done about it.

Either way, you're screwed. Abortion is wrong....and paying child support...well that's just right thing to do. (Do you really think that it's easy living with a child?? THEN, if so, you should take custody of the child and see how YOU do. Paying child support is easy if you make a lot of money) Since it really is both, the man and woman's fault...one has to live with the child without the father, and the other gets to pay child support.
That's why you either take birth control pills, or the shot...or wear condoms. That's the smart thing to do. Either that, or not have sex at all. ;P

So you think this kind of choice should be left for a man to decide....thats funny...women will endure all the heartbreak and pain just so a man can save money for child support. Its THEIR choice to have sex and BOTH have to accept the consequences for their pleasure. Its all clear, unless a man chooses to pay child support for the next 18 yrs, drive to a drug store and get yourself some protection. And for women, unless you want to get stuck with a loser who can't take responsibilities for his actions, DOUBLE your protection.

This is actually one question i can't help with. you make good points, but so does the law. why are you asking this? and i personaly don't believe in abortion. its really mean you kill a living thing that grows inside of you, you prevent this child from ever having a life. don't you agree at how mean abortion is? if you wrote this because your gf is having a child, then talk her out of the abortion. Or if she has it don't abanden the child. im thirteen and have gone my whole life without my father and it really hurts, it will really afect the child future i know from expeirence

Because it was HIS choice to have sex with this women knowing the consequences, and the man should be responsible in helping with the kid.

because it takes two to get pregnant, is why he has to pay, because he helped get her pregnant and he should have to support his child... It is a woman's right to choose to have it or not over anything a man says because he isn't the one who has to carry the baby for 9 months and he isn't the one who has to push that baby out to bring it into the world... they are more sensitive to favoring women because of this...

good point. but i think that the man should still pay child support because it was both of their choice to have sex! they both made the baby, so why should he NOT have to pay child support??

Geez, tough it up and be a man. If you really loved that baby, you would pay it without a doubt. Men who are hesitant or complain don't even care about the child. Trust me, I know.

OK I got pregnant and NEW that I WOOD GET PREGNANT BUT WHEN HE acted like he did then i knew get an abortion! hes not wanting it so I did ,(but see he wanted me to get pregnant) And my 2 boys I have now I don't even bug him for money as long as we are cool he can see his kids.
