My husband and I and just invited one of his friends to come and live with us....Little did we know that he has tested positive for the Herpes Virus! I don't want to judge him for his life choices, but I am horrified at the fact that he had been sharing our bathroom (shower, toilet, sink) our dishes, computer, and has played with my son a lot! Oh yeah I have a son who is 7 months old, and he takes baths in the same shower, as well as my husband and I. Does anyone know if we could get the virus through sharing these things! Please help me, im mortified and scared to death!

Herpes cannot be spread through normal social contact, such as sharing a bathroom, shaking hands, etc. Only through intimate skin contact is it spread. And really, don't judge, about 1 in 5 people have herpes, and it is a difficult disease to live with, it probably took alot of courage and trust for him to even tell you when he didn't have to.

I understand your concern, but you really have nothing to worry about!

Herpes is a DIRECT skin to skin contact disease. It can't be passed by using the toilet seat after him, using a shower or tub after him, using a chair after him, a pool, jacuzzi, etc. You need DIRECT skin to skin contact. Genital herpes is almost ALWAYS spread by some sort of sexual contact.

I have had genital herpes and HPV for over 6 years now. I lived with my parents and brothers most of those 6 years (I contracted the viruses when I was 17). NONE of my family members ever got either virus from me by using something after me like the toilet or shower. I've also had several other family members and boyfriends (now ex's) use the bathroom after me and NONE of them ever contracted genital herpes or HPV from me. It's just not spread that way.

Good luck and take care!

Don't worry about it. It would be damned hard to get herpes with him just sharing your house with you. If your kid or husband ends up getting it, well then you'd better be worrying that either he was molesting your kid or you husband likes the rod.

anyone who has had chicken pox has been exposed to the herpes virus. relax and don't judge. you are more susceptible to the common cold and your kid will have many viral illnesses over the next few years.
