im not saying in any way this is the case but the 2.4 does have timing chain issues....they make a hellashish noise and break. try and make sure the cams are spinning.was there noise before? otherwise well... head gasket...warped head....and on and on. you know i saw an altima on the highway broken down today...in ct.

i like what john paul said!!!!

Put a fork in it (it's done). Pull the spark plugs and crank it over see how much water squirts out. Many times a new cyl head or resurface the old one. And it is back running but not for long the pistons and rings also overheated. Oil consumption will be a problem. And it most likely has 200,000 miles on it.

Sounds like it blew a head gasket and now has no compression. A mechanic can tell you if its worse, like a cracked head. The question is, do you want to spend $1000 to replace head gasket on a car with lots of miles on it?
