I am not a member or supporter of PETA, but I am a vegan and will not use or buy products that contain feathers. While it may be true that birds are not raised specifically for feathers, and they may be taken only after death (I don't know if this is true), I still do not want my money going to an industry that participates in the exploitation and murder of other creatures.
People may not buy their pillows directly from slaughter houses, but the pillow manufacturer do, and that's where your money ends up.

I choose not to use feathers, as decoration or as stuffing for pillows. Personally I feel there is really no need, there are alternatives to using feathers. I have a "down" comforter, which is made from synthetic materials, and so are my pillows. There is no need(at least for me) to be using anything with feathers.

I stay away from pillows too. Most companies do kill the animals for feather, mostly geese. I know not every company kills but there is really no way at this time to determine which are free collected or plucked so I stay away from all of them. However memory foam is very good and is made from synthetic fibers. I really like is and you can even find cheap memory foam mattress toppers and pillows that work great.

I think feathers as a bi-product are ok as long as the bird wasn't harvested for feathers and plucked! Feathers are pretty, I may have to get a peacocks one for my hat.

People Eating Tasty Animals, I believe, have nothing against feathers because it doesn't end the life of the animal. I'm not their spokesman, but I do have trouble figuring out why they'll risk injuring or killing three schoolkids while enroute to save a maggot in a movie scene.

Feathers belong on birds. I doubt that there is a way to convince a bird to shed all of its feathers willingly.

More likely than not feathers are harvested for that sort of thing, there aren't people running around with sacks trying to collect falling feathers. So I guess it'd be wrong for vegans to use such products. Just one of the many many many sacrifices they have to make I guess.

No PETA people use feathers... PETA is for treating Animals right, not for avoiding live stock..
Leather is from Cows we eat, feathers are from chicken we eat..Now Fur is different, WHY, cause they breed and treat the animals poorly for their fur...it is not for food, not nothing, just fur...
I hope this helped

feathers being sold are not okay by me - but if i find one on the ground outside, its okay to take it, because it was shed naturally, but in pillows and stuff, no - if you want a feather hat - there are plenty of them on the ground

Hi Colie,
great question. people seem to be very selective about the causes they support. it would be interesting to know if adamant P.E.T.A. members think on this level and avoid feathers in pillows and decorative hats.
maybe you'll receive some answers to this mystery....
