Absolutely.
Most STDs have a dormant period where they don't have "actve " symptoms but can still be transmotted. Also, it's possible ofr a person to be a carrier - that's where they don't have symptoms, they don't get infected per say but they can pass it on.
It's imperative that you and the person you're thinking about being with get tested. And you should get tested every year for your normal GYN visit. Some diseases they don't test for unless you ask so pay attention.
I'll edit this and give you some good websites....

Yes you can for both men and women. It depends on the STD and the overall health of the person. HIV can take almost 10 years to show signs. Alot of people also ignore symptoms hoping they will go away on there own. For information on STDs I would suggest visiting a doctor or looking at the center for disease control website. I think it is CDC.org

Yes. Go on line and read the symptoms for each STD and you can learn from the professionals, instead of people like me and others who answer.

There are definately STDs that stay dormant in the system. It happens to men and women. Both genders CAN have it and not realize it for awhile--this is most common in herpes simplex. HIV is also a disease that can lay dormant for years before becoming full blown AIDS. Hope this helps.

Yes and it is true for men and women.
This is why you should get tested regularly, even if you don't have any symptoms.

yes, std can be silent, but yet possibly cause infertility, and other problems. a doctor needs to test for stds, and both partners can pass the disease back and forth, so if there is a treatment, the doctor may want to also treat the partner.

most definitely yes you can, and many do, that is how stds get spread for the most part, people don't realize they have them.
so if you have more than one sexual partner, it is a good idea to have monthly checks for the various stds, or change your sexual habits.
