I guess I'm the lone holdout here - I tasted it and didn't like it.

I tasted Alligator at a Brazilian BBQ restaurant. I probably did it to myself because Alligators are my one PHOBIA - anyway, I thought that it was the most awful, foul taste I have ever had in my mouth. It tasted like algae, rotten fish and brown scummy water. I gagged.

I had BBQ alligator on a stick at some food vendor at Summer Fest (Milwaukee, WI) a couple of years ago. It wasn't bad. It kind of tasted like pork.

Yes, it is a staple food in the bayous of Louisiana. Maybe Florida too, i don't know. It really does taste just like chicken. I ate mine at local restaraunt that caters to Louisiana/Cajun cooking. YUM!!!

I've had it a few times in Florida. That old "tastes like chicken" adage is true - except it's a bit chewier. Like if you crossed chicken and calamari :)

Had it in New Orleans, breaded and deep fried.

Not to sound too cliche, but it tasted like chicken.
