Disregard the first answerer. :( That's great that you lost 12 pounds! You don't want to lose weight any faster than that though. A pound or two a week is good. Keep up the good work!

Typically when first beginning a vegan/vegetarian diet, your body loses a bit of weight. Making sure you get all your vitamins and minerals (you stated you do) is key to keeping healthy on this sort of diet and not losing too much weight. The reason you have lost the 12 pounds you did, is most likely caused by the lack of fatty meats and milks/cheeses/eggs in your daily food intake. I would suggest speaking with your physician about your diet change, so you may find the healthiest way to partake in the vegan lifestyle.

Obviously Hu El Puh didn't read the entire passage you typed. I see that you ARE getting vitamins, probably through supplements. I want to know, is it working for you? I mean, you're losing weight, probably a little faster than a physician would be comfortable telling you to lose. But as long as you don't feel sick, nausea, diziness, weakness, etc. then you're probably doing just fine. I bet you'll slow down a bit and probably plateau to the point that you'll need to add daily exercise to your regimen. I think it's great that you're doing this. I wish I had the courage to do something like that. I just can't think of a way to eat nothing but vegetables and keep doing it. I'm not that disciplined, I guess. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! Just be sure and drink lots of water, too.

You are doing great losing 2 pounds of fat a week is very good and is justa about ideal. You should have very few problems with vitamins and minerals except for a few exceptions. Eat a diverse diet don't just stick to one or two foods. try to exercise 1 hour per day. Biking, walking, jogging, pushups, all that fun stuff.

That's 2 lbs a week and that's the way it should be. The more overweight you are..the faster you lose weight. Keep up the good work until you get to your desired weight. At that point, eat more healthy calories and keep active.

I don't know much about being vegan, but i know the person at the top is wrong and you can get all your minerals and vitamins with a daily vitamin. That said, your loss is about 2 lbs a week, which is good. I believe it's the low end (5 is the high).

Good luck with everything!

you will lose weight at what may seem to be a drastic rate at first, but it's because vegetarian and vegan diets are significantly lower in fat and cholesterol than meat-based diets. i don't know who pointed it out, but take a moment to study your daily caloric intake and output. 12 pounds in 6 weeks is well within the range of what is considered healthy, but you may want to evaluate your diet just to make sure that you're getting everything you need. when i first made the switch to vegetarian, i found that i lost a lot of weight, and even though i thought i was eating enough i was consistently feeling tired and run-down (i was only taking in about 1000 calories daily but i was burning almost triple that).

and before i forget to say it, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! any positive change where one's health is concerned is laudable!

but as a vegetarian (on my way to vegan) and a mom, i just want you to be sure that you're going about it in a healthy and safe manner.

well done for losin weight, i am glad you are keeping up all vitamins and minerals.
thats fine, as long as you are not starving hungry.
2 lbs a week is a good steady weight loss for someone who is overweight-but set a target weight, and once you reach it, dont carry on losing it.
just keep the pounds off.
remember to exercise, or you will become thin but not toned (which means saggy and wrinkles im afraid lol)

You're fine if you were overweight to begin with. A vegan diet is a great way to stay at the right weight, whether you were over or under weight before.
