I just became a vegetarian or lets say practicing to be a vegetarian. Its almost a week now but I am running out of option to eat. I just realized how much meat addictive we are, the restaurant menu system is based on meat. I want proper protein from food and more vitamins and stuffs. Please guide me if you are a true vagitarian. I am a lactointolrent too so I cannot drink milk or dairy product either but I do eat cheese and eggs. I just want to see if I can be successful in my mission to be a vagitarian without getting weaker?

Look, as long as you eat a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts/seeds, and beans/pulses, you will be FINE. The only way you risk a protein deficiency is if you eat junk food all the time or you don't eat enough food. I have yet to hear of a protein deficiency epidemic in the U.S.

You can have soy milk, soy ice cream, soy yogurt. Experiment to find the brands you like. There's also soy cheese, but many brands have casein (a dairy protein), so if you're considering becoming vegan, you should keep that in mind.

Go to www.vegweb.com for vegan recipes. www.recipezaar.com also has a good vegan section. You can find vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants all over the world on www.happycow.net and www.vegdining.com. Happy Cow even lists natural food stores.

And Beano has gelatin in it, so it is NOT vegetarian.

Beans are loaded with protein. If you don't want gas, buy some Beano and put a couple of drops in them before you eat them. Fish is good also.

Eat more raw foods. They have a lot of protein and nutrients. You don't need to eat cheese and milk and you don't need to eat a lot of soy proteins. There is enough protein in vegetables to sustain you well. If you are feeling protein deficient then eat nut butters.

depends how vegetarian you want to be.. if you don't want to have anything to do with anything that has a "face"... then its all about beans ( lots of variety out there.. black beans are great...kinda beefy tasting...can be mashed into a burger...can be eaten as is.. ) garbanzos...pinto...chili beans... ALL good sources of protein... then theres nuts... tofu.. soy products... lots of phony "meats" things out there in the grocery...they have soy "ground meat"... careful of soy though... makes some peoples tummys revolt ... usually only if you go "soy" crazy... ANOTHER thing i think is great...not all about protein buy mushrooms!... portabellas are practically like steak when you grill 'em... email me if you want me to give you ideas with portabellas...:P

good luck..
