Meat-eaters are probably bothered by vegetarians and vegans because the existence of vegetarians highlights the negative aspects of their meat-eating habits and makes them feel guilty. Generally speaking, they transfer their feelings of guilt into aggression towards vegetarians and vegetarianism.

In other words, when meat-eaters come to argue with vegetarians, it usually means they are trying to convince themselves that eating meat is okay and that there is something wrong with vegetarianism.

Of course, I think most meat eaters don't care much about vegetarianism, and those meat-eaters wouldn't bother coming to the vegetarian section.

I'm not sure. I have noticed it as well though. I think the comparison to the religion boards is pretty accurate. I mean absolutely NO offense to anyone with what I'm saying, it's only my thoughts on the subject.

I think that part of the reason many non-religious people get so angry with religious people is a sense of guilt mixed with the fear that the religious people just may be right. There is a definite parallel with the V&V board there. I think meat-eaters see a whole group of people who have dedicated themselves to doing no harm to animals and deep down they realize how many animals they've killed and how much suffering they've caused and they lash out at us. They know that we are doing the right thing for the animals, for our bodies, and for the planet and it upsets them.

On the other hand, there are people (like myself) who are not religious and don't have any problem with those people because we believe that we are right. The same holds true with V&V. There are plenty of people here who truly believe that eating meat is the way to go and feel no guilt about it and they are the ones, usually, who are a little more laid back about it.

People who truly feel they are right, and harbor no doubts, rarely feel the need to lash out at the other side. This is just my personal observation.

he's probable vegetarian the two for the animals or environmental motives, meaning he ought to no longer be thinking approximately wellness. i'm vegetarian because of the fact I care approximately animals and experience sorry for them being killed, yet I nonetheless consume meat-loose junk nutrients (e.g. chocolate, chips, crisps etc) because of the fact they style stable and don't require an animal to be killed. He nonetheless makes a large determination although. in spite of if he does consume vegetarian junk nutrients, it is no longer likely against his ideals approximately being concerned approximately animals or the ecosystem (those are 2 greater straight forward motives for being veggie). wish this permits!

I have noticed this as well.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I have no qualms with any of them. I think it's totally a personal choice, whether it's for health, environmental or moral reasons.

Generally in this world it seems that anyone who strays from the pack gets criticized. The need to follow the pack comes naturally in humans.

Be yourself anyways. Followers suck.

There seem to be two main reasons that overlap.

A lot of people perceive vegetarians as self-righteous; whether they have seen evidence of this or not. For some, one need only say "I don't eat meat" to be seen as self-righteous. For example, a friend of mine used to say things about people he called "vegi nazis", but he was unable to to give one example of a person who fit this description.

Xenophobia: the fear of anything that is different.

Its true that these past few weeks its got really bad. It started when schools broke for summer and it seems many have forgotten to go back.

"grae" - please try to understand this bit....you are posting about veggies preaching to you in a veggie forum....who is really the one doing the preaching here ???? Is the "general/food and drink" section full of vegetarians giving meat-eaters a hard time ? No, never.

This forum is full of meateaters who claim they get a hard time from lots of veggies and vegans. Do you live in Vegansville ?

I know many veggies but it seems i know diddly squat compared to all the meat-eaters here

Kitkat...SSHHHHH, you nearly let it slip then...you know, about the "club"

I think part of it is an unconscious guilt. They know deep down that they feel guilty for eating meat, so they try to justify it by convincing themselves that everyone else is doing it too. If they see people that aren't doing it, it brings the subconscious guilt back.

Because omnivores think we have a secret society and it drives them mad that they aren't members LOL (see my question regarding the secret vegetarian club)

Seriously though...in general...just like you said about the R&S section, people don't like what they don't understand.
