my husband has very unstable readings. The highest he has been , that we know of is 235. However sometimes within an hour of eating he is in the normal range- which makes us happy- and then before his next meal , or bedtime, he checks at it can be around 190 or more. What can cause this, and do you have any suggestions? He is only Starlix and cinnamon tabs. The cinnamon tabs have helped with his after meal readings.

Often times, going too long without eating, or allowing yourself to get too hungry, your liver dumps glucose in your system. This also happens when you get up in the morning. The reason this happens in the morning is to get your body moving, and at other times, it's a defense mechanism against starvation. It's like energy in storage just in case. What can help is to make sure that your hubby is not waiting too long to eat, that he is eating longer-lasting carbs, and that he is eating snacks and smaller meals, eating more often throughout the day.
I eat usually about 4 meals a day:
~ breakfast around 9:30 or sooner, depending on how hungry I am
~ lunch around noon or so, usually before I go to work or right as I start work
~ a meal around 4:00 or so, not too large usually
~ another meal around 9:30 -10:00, after I've gotten home from work and while I'm still quite awake.
I eat snacks throughout th day as needed, maybe a little bite here and there. I prefer low carb protein bars. The protein helps the carbs last longer and are great for a little boost between meals as well. Hope this helps!
