Possibility #1: The degree of contagion varies in an individual. Most STI' s can lie dormant for a period, then flare up.
Possibility #2: He didn't get it from his ex, but from someone since your last encounter.
Get treated. Chlamydia can cause a low grade inflammation of the fallopian tubes that can lead to infertility. Don't sleep with him again until he gets treated.

I would strongly think he'd been sleeping w/ other people. It's good that he was honest with you (to a point?), but a) it's clear you haven't been having safe sex, and b) it's statistically almost a guarantee that he's been runnin' around with other fillies, darlin'. Personally, and out of care for myself, I'd be looking for a different lover, one that isn't routinely diseased.
