A renal ultrasound is a ultrasound of your right and left kidneys. The procedure will not hurt but you might have a little discomfort if she/ he has to press a little. The ultrasound tech will put gel on one side of your body and scan that kidney first and switch to the other side. He/She is looking for pathology like masses, stones, cysts, fluid, ect. He/She might check your bladder as well since they are related. make sure you know if you have to fill your bladder before the test. if you have any questions feel free to message me i am going to school for ultrasound and I start my clinical in 3 weeks.
hope this helps!

Renal refers to kidneys and their function, so "renal ultra sound" would be referring to a sonogramatic study of the kidneys and their functioning. It could also be used to look for kidney stones, etc.

renal ultrasound is a ultrasound of the kidney... it is painless, like an xray, except they use a jelly material and a wand like thing that they put up against your skin and look at your kidneys and surrounding structures on the screen.
