One of the volunteers in our animal rights came to one of our meetings with a leather purse. She actually left the leather purse in her car and carried in a hemp purse. However, when I was walking out to my car, I saw her leather purse. When I said something to her about it, she said it was her friends.

I have spoke with the rest of the group and we know where she lives and I said we should picket at her driveway entrance. I have already made up some signs showing photos of cows that have been skinned. I am just frustrated that we have a member who would even own a leather purse. I am so angry right now. I told the group we should demand answers from her right now!!!

DimBlonde, you definitely live up to your name, that is for sure. Cows were here before we were and they would be grazing in the wild if we didn't have them locked up in factory farms waiting to die for some heartless meat eater who doesn't care about them.

The Teacher, there is nothing beautiful about a steak. It is a symbol of the everything wrong with this world right now. We need to have love in our heart and care about animals and stop eating them and wearing them.

Maybe she doesn't believe in waste either, and to throw out a leather purse that has already been made won't bring the cow back. I've heard lots of vegetarians and vegans say on this site that they keep stuff they already have when they go veggie, because it would be a waste to throw it out, and just gradually replace it with no-leather.
Unless you actually touched it, you can't be sure it wasn't fake leather, and you definately can't be sure it doesn't belong to someone else. Stop poking your nose in other people's cars! You really are quite a twit. Bring it up in the meeting and ask everyone at the meeting to commit to never using any leather and to throw out any that they do have. I doubt everyone will agree, even in an animal rights group. I wonder if they like you there any better than on this forum?

I would support anyone's right to a peaceful demonstration, but I would question the effectiveness of this particular one. You are thinking about picketing the house of somebody because she has a friend who owns a leather purse, which ended up in her car. It's great that you feel strongly enough about this issue to want to do something like organize a picket, but putting all that effort and energy to target one person (one person who attends animal rights meetings none-the-less!) is a bit silly and makes it seem like you are simply attacking an individual rather than expressing your views on how animals should be treated. You should probably focus your energy on reaching a larger audience, and avoid personal attacks unless you want your group to be ostracized from the rest of society -- which maybe you don't care about, but don't expect to change many minds if you take that route.

If you are going to talk about love in your heart, maybe you should show a little love towards your fellow man and leave this woman alone. What right do you have to picket her HOME, that is where she lives, she should have the RIGHT to live in her HOME, FREE of demonstrators outside her house. Maybe the purse was a friends, do you have definitive proof that it was hers? Even if it was being a hypocrite does not mean that she should have the outside of her home invaded. Just don't let her in your group anymore and move on. We live in a democratic country where we still have the right to eat what we want and make choices in regards to our beliefs, it's bad enough that we live in a society that appears to be under threat at the moment without worrying that we will be picketed or worse because we choose to east meat and wear leather. And if you want to get angry at a hypocrite I suggest you look towards the designer daughter of a Very famous musician, who has recently joined forces with a company that kills kangeroos.

Now here's the question: are you absolutely certain it was a leather purse? Did you pick it up and inspect it for the '100% leather' stamp or sniff it for that distinctive smell? How do you know it's not her friend's? Did you catch her transferring her stuff into it or something equally sordid?

Without concrete proof, what you are doing is HARASSMENT. Your entire group could be fined for picketing outside her residence. You could be losing a dedicated member of your organization because of your reactionary tactics, instead of giving her the benefit of the doubt and waiting to see if what she said is true.

Either way, you need to ask yourself this: is one leather purse worth tearing down one person's ego and, by doing so, your organization's reputation? If it's hers, simply dismiss her and tell her not to use your organization as a reference. If it's not, you're going to feel really, really REALLY stupid being a reactionary idiot instead of a rational adult.

And quite frankly, if you need to have love in your heart, why are you so angry and unwilling to give this volunteer the benefit of the doubt? You can't have it both ways--vilify the human and deify the animal. Either you love everyone, or you don't. Don't get preachy just because you're involved with a socially-acceptable cause.

Who are you to demand answers from anyone? And what do you think you would achieve by picketing her house?
You are some kind of lunatic. If I was this person I would turn up to the next meeting clutching a take away bag from Burger King and put it on your head having devoured the contents
I like the answer about shooting you too but I think the guy meant '12 gauge shotgun' instead of 'paintball marker'

Get a life comes to mind.

Given that most animal rights activists do something to endanger life or doctor products that then can endanger lives, why should any of us care what you feel over what is nothing more than a petty incident.

Don't you know that he product your on about could be synthetic, with the smell of leather or didn't your narrow minded attitude let you think clearly??

You realise if you carry out the threats that you can be arrested for intimidation, harassment, trespass and an unlawful gathering aka demonstration? Bet you didn't think of that did you?

ADDITIONAL:

I just looked at the link in your profile, you belong to a group that wants to liberate animals at the cost of the environment? I suppose you are likened to the morons who do not see the Ecological effects of releasing these "Factory" farmed animals or the cruelty in doing so. Plus PETA has been pulled into to the public eye for contamination of products that may or may not have been tested on animals as well as your lot are the crew that put foreign objects into baby foods, HOW ETHICAL IS THAT you DIM WHIT? You really want to get educated with facts before you go spouting your rhetoric that is not well founded even by today's standards.

So let me get this straight, you dont have proof it was real leather and you dont have proof that it was even hers but you are perfectly willing to alienate a member of your club and disrepect her right to peace at her own house? Wow that an amazing bunch you belong to. For the record Dim blonde is perfectly right about cows if no one were to eat them they would go extinct as the have been heavily modified to the point of being unable to survive for long on their own by man. All of their milk and meat production abilities are products of selective breeding the same we do with our plants.

Maybe she was telling the truth, and it did belong to a friend? Or maybe it wasn't even leather, there are some fairly good substitutes out there now.

I'm all for animal rights. Though I eat meat - it's just our position in the food chain, plus you have to season the hell out of Quorn for it to taste just OK. Mmmmmm, meat.

Hope you and your lesbian organisation are nice to that nice lady with the leather purse.

WOW- I think that is a bit drastic! Are you sure it wasn't her friends after all. I understand that you are upset- but why don't you try talking with her about this first. Maybe you should politely tell her your concerns. I'm sure she would be more open to listening if you were considerate about it rather than hostile. If you go picket it is just going to make the situation a lot worse.

I'm still in shock that you would do something so drastic for such a small issue. Let me tell you the world has much more important issues to deal with right now!

NO! The cow the leather came from was used for food, the leather is a by product of that process. You people kill me, you seem to forget meat is a food group, and with out it the powers of our brain would have never been realized. I agree with protecting the whales and any animal that is endangered, but animals that are raised for food, fur in vast numbers that will stagger the mind: makes no sense at all. You stand against DEER HUNTING yet the fees that are realized from this Sport buy lands that both game and non-game animals need to live on, Support reintroduction programs for endangered species, plus their are so many lies out there about how the animals die, they may out number the animals themselves. You need a lot more understanding, I have seen you people wearing leather shoes, coats, belts, hats and heard the lame excuse it does not hurt the animal to give up its leather. Only it has to die: Educate your people before you protest anyone any more! PLEASE!
