I have not been diagnosed with diabetes. But sometimes when I test my levels 1 hour after eating, it can be as high as 186 (even when I just have a bowl of plain oatmeal, unsweetened)...but then at the 2 hour mark it can quickly decrease to as low as 105. Is it normal for levels to go up that high at all after eating, and then drop so much in a matter of 2 hours? I read somewhere that in a normal person your levels should not ever go past 180 unless you have eaten a huge, high carb meal. Is this something that happens occasionally in the average non-diabetic person? I don't think I get to 180 ALL the time, but in my monitoring lately it has happened. Sometimes it can be around 150 1 hr. after meals-- even when I think I'm eating more that could cause my levels to go up.

Also, is it possible that slight anxiety can cause this?

I'm checking my own blood sugar because I opted out of doing the glucose tolerance test for GD. I am 28 weeks pregnant.

I'm sorry, but I don't need to be given any lectures. Since I have noticed my numbers were high, I have taken all the precautions necessary to lower my blood sugar. They didn't want me to do the test because they were able to diagnose me as GD just from my own montoring. I have been very good about everything and I don't take this lightly. I have been prepared with everything even before meeting with the doctor about it.

You are definitely gestational diabetic.
I had a still born jan 2006 at 8 months pregnancy and then got pregnant again in april 2006 and found out i was gestational diabetic in august. They did the test twice and then found out I was diabetic. I insisted that there was something wrong with me and this time around they found it and stopped me from going through what i went through the first pregnancy. I lost my baby because of diabetes. I wouldnt take this slightly. Its very serious if you have high readings because even a few of them per week means you have diabetes. I measured four times a day for 4 months and I had a reading above 140 only 5 times. You shouldn't have a reading over 140 one hour after you eat.. Since you said you had a reading of 186 once and 150.. this is all bad forr you and your baby. You can't go by the normal diabetic. Being pregnant you have different rules that apply for you because the baby is very sensitive to your sugar levels. Anxiety doesnt cause diabetes.. its your bodys inability to handle the sugar levels while youre pregnant. Stress doesnt help yes.. but your food intake is very important. I suggest you get a test done.
Good Luck. I had a healthy baby girl in January 2007.

Sounds like you need to opt back in to the blood sugar test. Pregnancy is difficult at best but if you have gestational diabetes it could be dangerous for your baby.
Anxiety is not causing your blood sugar to go up.
If you refuse to get the diabetes test you need at the least to stop the sugar limit the starches (like oatmeal) and exercise (walk) every day.
Don't let your baby suffer because you let your blood sugar get out of control.

Ok..sounds like you are borderline diabetic. A normal persons blood glucose level is 80-110 range. The ranges you have sound like you are tipping the scales at borderline diabetes. Carbs turn to sugar and cause the glucose levels to raise, emotions, can also elevate the sugar. My advice is to see your doctor and monitor your sugar 4 times a day until you see your doctor..
ps..read your labels too..there is sugar in everything..they have different names but the only good sugar is from fruit..its natural.

I have Diabetes II..and have been for over 10 years. I am my own source.

It's normal for sugars to go up within 2 hours . Don't worry about your 1 hour levels. The 2 hour levels are more important.

The best time to monitor your blood sugar is BEFORE meals. Diabetics will tend to run high levels prior to eating anything at all...if you're ever in the hospital, you'll notice they check blood sugars and give insulin prior to meals. It sounds like your blood sugar levels are normal. Why are you checking your blood sugars anyway? I wouldn't do it unless you have symptoms...

That is the reason you are told to wait until 2 hours after eating to test. Blood sugars will be higher shortly after eating and by the 2 hour mark they have settled and your body has issued insulin and utilized the glucose.

most of us test at the 2 hour interval, not one hour!! reason is that at one hour it is highest.

Your results show normal!!! Yes it can be high at one hour. and back to normals at 2 hours.

Yes stress has a lot to do with glucose numbers.
