I made out with someone random at a club for the first time ever. He had no signs of an outbreak, but I know you can still get herpes without signs of an outbreak. I am extremely paranoid about getting herpes. Currently, I get canker sores on the inside of my mouth, but have never had anything else on the outside of my mouth. My question is, what are the chances of getting herpes? If I did have it, when would I experience an outbreak? Am I just being overly paranoid? What percent of the population has it? If you do have herpes or know someone with herpes, does it seriously affect your life? Any other helpful info? I tell ya, the first and last time I will make out with someone random.....

im sorry for the person who asked this question but as a nurse i just feel i need to boo hoo the first nurse who answered yr question!! i agree with what yr saying but is putting the fear of god into ppl the right way to go about it??!! cold sores is what were talking about .. the majority of the population has had a cold sore at some point in their life, the herpes simplex is soooo easy to pass around, but its not gonna kill ya!! its gonna leave u with an ugly sore that wont last for much longer than a week, and if yr a smart when u get in a serious relationship with someone, a life partner, u will be honest .. and the majority of ppl will say "hey i get cold sores to!"
i was a teenager once, i made out with random ppl, i was lucky mind you, if we all start thinking like paranoid freaks we wont be crossing roads "incase we get ran over" and we wont be eating chicken "incase we get bird flu" ,
be realistic and be smart!!

Ok first of all oral herpes or also known as cold sores arent a big deal. They can be painful and irritating but thats about it. You can spread them by haveing oral sex with an outbreak and so on.
Now if you just kissed someone without an outbreak then I think you will be fine. But if they had a cut on the inside of their mouth and didnt know it then you could get it. But like I said it would be cold sores not a big deal. Canker sores are a little different cause they are inside of the mouth. If you never go tthem before this then you shoule go to your doc and have them looked at.
I do have several friends that have genital herpes and it has affected their lifes but not in ahuge way. They have to be more careful when haveing sex and they also need to be on a medicaltion that can prevent out breaks and even help preveting the spread of them. Most common one used is valtrex.
I have cold sores they are annoying but I am very careful never to kiss any one when I have an outbreak and I dont use my chapstick and I dont touch it. Veyr controllable,.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/herpestreatment2015Na1H
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

The guy above that is not true about canker sores being the same thing. They aren't Totally different. Canker sores are not contagious....so that is not true. Dont worry about it but don't make out with strangers.

You already have them. Those "canker sores" you are getting... Thats herpes simplex-1. Dont worry, about 75% of the population has it. I have had it since I was a baby (got it from my dad) and it really hasnt affected me. has it affected YOU?

One time is all it takes, and you won't know that you have it until you have an outbreak, congratulations, that one stupid episode has made you a potential carrier and infector of others. If I were a guy, wouldn't touch you with a ten foot pole.
What is it with young people these days? Do you all think you are immortal? Do you think it can't happen to you? Or do you just drift thru life not thinking about the consequences of your actions until it is too damned late? I'm sorry, to rant like this, but in the past few months have seen so many questions just like this one that it breaks my heart.

I THINK YOU ARE OVERREACTING. EVERY TIME YOU KISS SOMEONE YOU THINK THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING. IT SOUNDS LIKE SOME KIND OF TRAUMA TO ME.
