Amazing is one word for it. Disgusting is another. I'm an ovolacto vegetarian, and purchase milk without all the additives they pump into the cows to increase production. I also purchase cage free eggs, as any creature has an inalienable right to enjoy even a basic quality of life.

Years ago Upton Sinclair blew the lid off the industry with his book "The Jungle." It's still "amazing" reading, as is "Animal Farm." A man leading the way, ahead of his time.

Thanks. It's a good point that these farms don't like it when their product dies as it is bad for the bottom line. They are willing to accept certain losses when it becomes too expensive yo guarantee the health of every animal. Essentially the businesses figure out the marginal cost of better health for the product. The MC goes up per unit as they approach unity (100% saved) At some point the MC of saving the next cow or unit of product becomes greater than the Marginal Revenue recieved from the production of that unit. Where MC=MR is where the most efficient farmer will set his desire to maintain the health of each unit of product (cow, chicken, what have you)

It's not a decision based on any morality or immorality, it's an economic decision. Money is amoral itself, we are the ones that assess moral values to monetary activities.

Factory farming is gruesome, but consumers want the lowest priced products and so the farmers are driven to find the most cost effective methods. If you don't like it, be willing to pay more for all that you eat.

It is no use trying to blame Islam for 911 - this was only but the biggest conspiracy ever against the American People by the Bush administration. Open your eyes people, even all the alleged cell phone calls were impossible to have been made........ stop looking to blame Islam and Muslims for every bad thing that happens. President Bush is one of the worst criminals still alive today. No-one can guide your heart but the Almighty, so good for Holdbrooks if he feels he has made the right decision.

More alarmist BS. Do you really believe that for profit farms let their product die from neglect? Where's the profit motive in unsellable product?
