I have a forever going play list. I also did a little research and found that geometrical shapes in bright colors would be good. I have the posters and Elvis not so much. He is more the 50s and 60s maybe. Just guessing. That's more my grandparents not my parents. I was born in the mid 80s.

The 80's were all about excess, so make your decorations dramatic and colorful. Look for paper cups and plates in neon colors, animal prints or black-and-white geometric patterns. Plaster the walls with posters of quintessential 80's pop stars like Culture Club, Thompson Twins, Cyndi Lauper, New Kids on the Block and the queen of the decade, Madonna. To really get in the spirit, pop in a DVD of a John Hughes movie or an 80's band's video collection and have it playing, on mute, during the event.

Looking for a unique 80's party tip? Make yourself and your guests part of the decor! Before the party, ask your guests to lend you a photo of themselves in their wildest 80's outfit. Make enlarged copies of these photos and hang them up around the party area. During the party, your guests can guess who's who and laugh at all the bi-level haircuts and pegged pants. If you aren't old enough to have been a teen back then, you can easily find retro photos online of stars like Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe and Molly Ringwald looking their 80's best.

I'd say posters or signs from groups like Men at Work, Devo, Michael Jackson (I know, but he was cool then), Styx, Madonna, etc.

Put on an official 80's movie, like Dirty Dancing or Purple Rain or Flashdance.

If I were dressing like the 80's , I'd wear a "torn" sweatshirt, tights (not see-through) and legwarmers with Reeboks.

I included a website that has a lot of great ideas!

Have fun!

Ooh, how fun! You should watch that movie 200 Cigarettes. Its set around New Years Eve, 1980-something. Anyway, I would say bold neon colors would be good, beaded curtains, black light. A lot of party stores will have a 80s theme section, so you could check those out too.

Get some strobe lights, little fog machine, lots of glitter, have some of those little glow in the dark wristbands (dollar store) for everyone when they come in, etc. And get you an 80s music playlist prepared now!

You could make an 80s video playlist, too

Pink, purple, lime green streamers and balloons. Find photos on the interet of old 80's tv and move stars, print them out and stick 'em on the walls. Find some old LPs at garage sales and stick the covers on the walls.
