I was diagnosed with a "common" form of HPV. I had these small warts, look like skin tags, on the outside around the vulva. She looked at my cervix and it was clean. I had a clean pap in May. She counted 10 warts but I only physically saw 4-5. She gave me the option of putting cream on it 3-4x a week at night or having her put a form of acid on them once a week. I had her put the acid on them. They didn't all fall off. So I guess go back again this week?

Is there anyone else out there like me? Any word of advice or maybe what else I should do? I'm still confused and slighty emotional, even though most women get HPV at sometime in their life...I'm just stunned that I have it.

Thanks.

I had genital warts from my HPV about a year ago and I used Aldara cream to get rid of them. It took about 5 weeks for them to completely go away but other than that it worked great.

You might want to give creams a chance. They can be used at your home and at your convenience. If they don't seem to work or you don't want to try them then you might need to have surgery to remove them. Warts can be removed by freezing (cryosurgery), burning (electrocautery), or laser treatment.

Good luck and take care!

Approximately 20% of the population has HPV however most people don't even know it. Not everyone exhibits signs of having it (ie warts). Just remember if you have had a wart on your finger or anywhere else, that is caused by a strain of HPV as well. You just have a form that happens to grow in the genital area.

After the warts have been removed you may not see any new ones form for months, years or even ever. It is completely dependant on your immune system. As far as treatment goes surgical or acid are preferred methods where the cream causes inflamation to the surrounding areas and isn't always as effective. However it is an option when other preferred options are exhausted.

Only advice I could give to you is that you are not alone, nor is it the end of the world. There are far worse STDs out there with worse symptoms. Just remind yourself that genital warts are no different than warts on any other part of your body except for their location. Make sure you protect yourself in the future and notify any future partners that you have it, as it is now your responsibility. Good luck!

I had the same problem. They didn't fall off the first time so i went back for seconds the second time they did and aggresive treatment it was painful and made large sores...but it worked. If u have insurance i'd have them right u a script for ALDARA (it is VERY expensive) anyway it's great to have around incase 1 or 2 just pop up.It normally takes about 2 weeks for them to go away..But make sure u wash well the morning after u use the cream it can cause severe irritation.
i was so imbaressed when i found out i had them too.Don't worry about it it's very common.
good luck and god bless.

i was recently diagnosed with the same thing back in april. your reaction is completely normal. i still have a hard time dealing with the fact, but life will go on... i went thru the acid treatments once every other week from april until august when they finally went into remission. just keep your head up. do a little bit of researching on the Aldera cream they offer you to do every other night before bed. i chose to stick with the acid treatments. best of luck. know your not alone out there. there's millions of us!
