You are correct, whey is not vegan. Here is why:

"Whey or milk plasma is the liquid remaining after milk has been curdled and strained; it is a by-product of the manufacture of cheese or casein and has several commercial uses."

Whey comes from a cow. When milk is seperated to make cheese whey and curds are the result. Whey is the liquid and the curds become cheese. There you have curds and whey, just like Miss Muffet.

Whey is a component of milk. Vegans do not use animal by-products, which includes dairy foods. Therefore, you are correct.

That is correct. Whey is the byproduct of cheese production. It is the liquid that forms when the curd is seperated from the cream and milk. Most cheeses are made with rennet, which is an enzyme extracted from the 4th stomach of slaughtered baby veal calves. Some brands of cheese, such as Cabot, are made with vegetarian rennet, but the whey would still not be vegan, as vegans do not consume anything derived from or tested on animals.

Sometimes I will get some vegan dark or baking chocolates, but I've never really been a fan of dark chocolate. My favorite is a rice milk chocolate from a company called "enjoy life". It is vegan (states it on the packaging). Depending on where you live it might be hard to find; I buy them at Whole Foods, but I don't always find it in different locations.

No, it comes from pressed cheese. Definitely not vegan. Go to http://www.peta2.org and sign up for their email newsletter and every Monday they'll send you a new vegan recipe. They also show lists of grocery items that are vegan and have lost of tips for becoming vegan much easier. Good luck!
