The four things you have to do every day to lower high blood sugar are:
Eat healthy food
cut out sugars, lower carbohydrates, eat more fruit veg,etc
Try to eat foods that are low in fat, salt, and sugar and high in fibre such as beans, fruits and vegetables, and grains. Eating right will help you:

Reach and stay at a weight that is good for your body.
Keep your blood sugar in a good range.
Prevent heart and blood vessel disease.
Cinnamon is said to help lower blood sugars
Get regular exercise
At least 30min a day or more
Take your diabetes medicine
Don`t skip any medications Give yourself an insulin shot before you eat.
Eat at about the same time and the same amount of food every day.
Don't skip meals, especially if you have already given yourself an insulin shot because your blood sugar may go too low.

Test your blood sugar

Basically I eat turkey ground, and salmon, I measure 3oz of protein a meal including eggs. I snack on celery and lowfat peanut butter, I eat cheerios,(never did before) read labels for carbs, cal, and esp sugar content. I eat to please my meter. So that means whole grain bread every other day (I like sandwich) and I eat veg/lentil soup for supper twice a week. I introduce a new food once in a while, like turkey spagetti (small portion) it didn't spike my metermore than 10 points, but that was noted. My weak area is excerise, and stress. If I don't get a good nights sleep or am inactive and stressed out--my meter is up 25 points. I also am trying to get smarter and hope the weight loss will be the difference.I am type 2.

We walk one to two miles every day. Some form of exercise is a real necessity.

Reduce your beef and pork intake to almost none. Eat chicken breast and fish. A heavy vegetarian diet helps.
Cut out all of those animal fats, butter and cow products. Although we still eat cheese.

Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains. (not enriched),
Nuts. Of course eliminate the sugar (we use Splenda) desserts. We use the smaller plates for all meals, they are about 7 or 8 inches across. This helps cut down on portions.
Eliminate most white foods. Potatoes, white rice, no white bread (it is enriched). Arnold's makes a good 12 grain bread that we use a lot. Oatmeal for breakfast is good( I put chunky unsweetened applesauce, raisins, nuts, Cinnamon and Splenda in mine) Watch all products with dextrose (lunch meats) maltose, the ose on a word indicates it is a sugar.

Reading labels is just required. Good Luck.
