when you have diabetes it impairs your circulation and since your feet are the farthest from your heart, they are the first affected. it is common with diabetes. tell her to take short walks several times per day. and to move her feet a lot even when she is sitting. also to call her dr and ask for more information on her condition and to talk to him about her feet. he will have more suggestions to help her. it is important to take good care of her feet because if she doesn't she can get sores that will be very hard to heal and could get infected.

You can try massage on her feet. It helps a lot to increase the circulation in them. That helps the pain to not be so harsh. I use massage with a nice oily lotion morning and night.

Be sure to go with her to the doctor and make sure you know how to take care of her feet. I know Grandmas are independent souls and want to be the same as they always were. But there comes a time when they need to be taken care of too. So be very kind while taking over her life. Don't let it be too obvious.

check to make sure her shoes fit. if her feet are swelling some of the pain could be from poor fitting shoes. also does she have some arthritis? if she has discoloration she may have poor circulation which can be painful. if she is borderline diabetic she should follow a diabetic diet and check her sugar weekly. she should also drink plenty of water. believe it or not if you are dehydrated your feet can swell. of course if she has heart problems she should check with her doctor concerning how much fluid she can safely drink.

It is time to go back to the doctor. Many diabetics have a lot of foot problems.

Your mother should be under the care of an endocrinologist who is doctor that specialized in diabetes. She should also see a podiatrist.

I hope that everything turns out OK and that your mother is loosing weight if she is overweight and is eating a healthy diet and getting exercise.
