Do the meat eaters have an unhealthy preoccupation with us as vegetarians. I posed a question for vegetarians only and got twenty answers often mean and stupid from nonvegetarians advising me to eat meat or worse. For so many vegetarians this is the most important committment in our lives ie. to preserve the life of animals and to chose not to devour their flesh. I wish all vegetarians the best. but we do live in a cruel meat eating, animal suffering world to say nothing of the suffering that people inflict on other people

I came to this forum because it interested me. I thought I might be able to learn some useful information to help my diet. Vegetarians and Vegans tend to be more aware of what they eat, so I was checking it out to see if there were any interesting topics to read.
Then I found Ashley and I couldn't stay away!
I answered your question about your housemate dilemma because I've lived with veggies and I thought I could offer a relevant answer. If you really wanted solutions to your problem, you wouldn't only ask specific people for answers to questions that could theoretically be answered by anyone.
If you don't like our answers you don't have to read them. I think most of the people who answered your question actually advised that someone had to move out, even the veggies were saying it was an unreasonable request.

Since you did say vegetarians only, I'll answer.

As an omnivore I personally don't answer questions that are posed to vegetarians only. But there are a lot of trolls who like to shake the trees and watch the bees so to speak. I only answer questions where I feel I can offer something of value.

I really don't care what you eat, and have helped many a young person who wanted to go vegetarian or vegan, with books, recipes etc. Some still are vegetarians some aren't it's their choice. I don't and won't force my lifestyle on anyone else and expect the same.

So forget the trolls, and lead a good life.

You're talking about the mean and stupid responses, I read. Yes, enough is enough. Everyone just committedly report their answers and get them violation noticed out of existence, then.

But I am not suggesting that people with an answer which is just an individual opinion from a non-vegetarian perspective get thumbs downed just because they are non vegetarian. That seems to happen in V&V enough already, and is very unwelcoming, in poor spirit and does not encourage curious people to experiment with cooking vego for a change. They'd be driven to think "vego is for fanatics, I'm outa here!". Same goes for all those who feel an unceasing need to remind fish eaters that they are not vegetarian per se. Please refrain and just share your recipes - that's what we're here for! :)

But it's a good idea to always thumbs down and report the unfriendly stirrers, trolls and flamebaiters in any section of YA, absolutely.

Most meat eaters don't give much thought to vegetarians one way or the other. But the anonymity of the internet allows a few ignoramuses to vent their hostility. I welcome the meat-eaters here, some of them give respectful, honest answers or ask well thought out questions showing an honest curiosity. Just ignore the trolls - or argue with them if that's your thing.

Here's a frank and honest opinion from someone completely unbiased and have no issue either way.

I'm not vegetarian but I don't eat meat, simply because I don't want to. I had a few bad experiences with meat. I have no objection towards eating meat, I would love to if it didn't make me wanna puke.

I handle meat, I love cooking & I love food, I'll taste the spices & flavouring b4 adding the meat product. I'm very sensitive to the smell & taste of meat and have no desire to consume it, I don't dislike it but I can't stomache it.

My friends & hubby call me vegetarian in RL, here I don't qualify because I'm not "ethical" about my eating habits. So I choose to refer to myself as a non-meat eater. Before I got here I had no idea there were so many rules outside what you ate to qualify as vegetarian

It upsets me that I'm rejected in this forum when in every way possible I qualify as a vegetarian. This is a FOOD & DRINK forum. I never came here to have my ethics & beliefs questioned and challenged.

I came here because I like new vegetarian/vegan food ideas & want to share mine.

When I make a "non-ethical" truthful remark like, meat eater can eat healthier than some vegans/ I like leather it make pretty shoes... I get thumbs down for the next week & get accused of trolling.

Then we get nasty people like Ashley, who simply don't belong anywhere, period.

Meat-eaters will come here & have the right to be here as much as do I. And nobody likes having what they eat challenged you do that, expect to get crap.

It's very sad to say, I now come to V&V looking to be entertained by ethical arguements, parental issues, animal rights debates. Cos that's all we get now.

I used to come here to share recipes & other food concerns. Now I go to main to do that, where you don't exactly get proper veg advice. We've lost a really good section, thanks to this rubbish.

When ethical debates, animal rights issues, sex & relationship stuff, even biology gets raised in a FOOD & DRINK section expect to get heckled.

Very simply, I prefered this as a sub-section of Food & Drink.

I don't know if we prick their consciences--they have a sense that there's something not right about eating meat, and our veg*anism confirms that--or if they like to pick on people different from them. Just try to ignore the jerks who get off on winding you up.

We are minorities in a meat-eating world, and we chose to be this way, so we have to accept that some people just aren't going to like us. There are, however, nice people who may not be able to go vegan, but will be able to accommodate our needs.

they want to get a rise out of us - most people enjoy a good argument or debate, me included, doing it over the internet means you can do it without losing friends, just having fun

I would say that it has more to do with showing how proud most that come in here are of their ignorance.

Please excuse me for thinking you vege's are a bit wierd and a little off balance with the rest of the world. I love animals and would never harm or torture them, but I just like meat, that's all.
