Hi,
I live in a traditionally Czech community in the United States. Every year, we make plum dumplings for my father's birthday. However, I am finding it hard to find the correct plums. Sometimes, they are called prune plums or Italian plums, or blue plums, or some combination of the above. If anyone knows where I may find them in Iowa, please let me know. Thanks!

The best time to find Prune Plums is July-August when they are in season.

You can ask the Produce Manager in your grocery store/farmer's market if they would try to special order them for you.. Italian prune plums should still available but not as tasty as in season.

Do you make the plum dumplings with Potatoes too? my babcha did and I so miss them =(

I live in Utah, we have Italian Prune trees in our yard. Many people around here call them plums. I tell them they are not plums, plums are round and prunes are oval like an egg, and taste entirely different. Also, in our area a prune is not good until the frost hits it. Once the frost hits it they become sweet & juicy.
They make wonderful raspberry/prune jam (just use frozen raspberries)

They come into our supermarkets in August & September. (Western Pennsylvania.) Prune plums. Maybe you can find an online grocer and have some flown in. Some gourmet vendors like Harry & Dean (?) may have them, too. I am sure you'd be able to find them in a bigger city like Chicago, too.

Actually I know the plumes you are talking about. I am Italian they are smaller and more pear shaped. I'm not sure where you would find them in your area but I would look at any local farmers market. Or maybe I even seen them at Meijer (I'm not sure if you have a meijer store in Iowa).

Yes, But I would suggest trying a heather grey or a white tank because it's Spring. I think the medium grey tone would be better during the Fall season. IMO...
