I'm going to take issue with the majority of folks here and insist that dieting does not cause "low blood sugar". That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I've been on a diabetic diet for over two years and have never measured my blood glucose at less than 70 mg/dl (3.9 mmol/l). It's usually between 80 and 110. Low blood sugar is considered by most as being lower than 60 to 70 mg/dl. I've even fasted and not seen anything lower than 70.
FYI, even if you don't eat anything at all, your pancreas produces a hormone called glucagon which causes the liver to convert stored glycogen into glucose in order to insure that you have adequate levels of glucose in your system.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucagon
Now, taking too much insulin or other blood glucose lowering agent might cause low blood sugar, but think about it... how can being on a diet lower your blood sugar? I know of no diet that is completely carbohydrate and sugar free and certainly has no blood glucose lowering agent in it. Come on, people.
And I doubt very seriously that anyone here exercises enough to lower their blood glucose more than 20 points. (I know how much it takes... I've done it).
Let's reiterate... you asked: "can being on a diet cause low blood sugar?" When one reads the words and understands what they mean, there is no possible way one can truthfully say "Yes". No diet I know of or ever heard of can (directly) cause low blood sugar. Not even that ridiculous Atkins diet. The only reasons I can think of for so many erroneous answers is:
A.) most people didn't read and understand the question or, B.) most people are sadly misinformed.

Yes and no. Being on a diet, especially a low-carb diet can lower blood sugar. However, ketosis kicks in and supplements sugars not eaten. Diabetics, who suffer from poor sugar regulation can get low blood sugar if they are on the diet long enough, usually at least three months or more. But typically, these individuals are likely to have a problem even if they don t diet.
Overall, I wouldn t worry about it. If you re on a low-carb diet you should also be seeing a doctor just to make sure you don t develop a problem. But low-carb diets are generally safe as long as you watch the sodium at the same time and drink enough water. And such diets are often used for diabetics to help control their diabetes.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Yes, if you are on really low calorie diet with low carb it can cause low blood sugar, but this is rather extreme case.

Yes being on a diet can cause you low blood sugars but you can prevent. If you eat protein it will help your blood sugar stablelize and help you on your diet too. Proteis are much easier to burn of and will maintain your blood sugars normal. Protein can be dairy products such a cheeze also peanut butter, eggs, milk, fish .. and so on ...

Yes,low carb diets causes low blood sugar. You need a certain amount of carbs for your body to function.Or you a diabetic?Counting calories can also cause low BS.You need 1200 to 1500 calories a day for body function. This is why you need to go to a doctor and let him or her determine what is the best diet for you.Don't be foolish and play around with low BS on your own.

When I first started the Atkin's Diet, I had my sugar tested from time to time, & it was right where it should be. I had hypoglycemia when I first began the diet, & the diet kept my insulin level where it should be, because of the protein I was consuming. If you aren't eating healthy, you could run into problems.
