Of course. One of the most common causes of yeast infections is the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics kill the "bad" bacteria which is naturally found in the vagina. This creates an imblance of the "good" bacteria and "bad" bacteria in the vagina which causes a yeast infection.

Here are some other factors that can cause a yeast infection:

Using antibiotics.

Having high estrogen levels (hyperestrogenemia), such as during pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy (HRT or ERT) use, high-dose birth control pill use, and the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle.

Having diabetes, especially if your blood sugars are not well controlled and tend to be high.

Having an impaired immune system.

Using corticosteroids, such as prednisone.

Being overweight.

Having the genital area exposed to moisture for a long period of time (for example, wearing a wet bathing suit all day) or living in a warm, humid climate.

Using an intrauterine device (IUD).

Having a sex partner with symptoms of yeast infection (very rare).

What is a yeast infection?

Many healthy women have a small amount of a certain kind of yeast called candida in their vaginas. When yeast in the vagina overgrows, a yeast infection develops, often leaving a vaginal discharge and/or an intense itching around the vagina and vulva.

What causes a yeast infection to develop?

A yeast infection can develop because of

certain antibiotics
diabetes
drugs that slow the immune system (like cortisone)
immune deficiency
normal hormonal changes (some women)
pregnancy

a yeast infection is not an std. You can be virgin (never had intercourse) and still get a yeast infection. Dr Hottie, tell me where you work so I can make sure to never go there.

Yes you can. Yeast infections are merely an overgrowth of the candidia bacteria. It can be a vaginal yeast infection, thrush of the mouth, athletes foot, jock itch, ringworm or c-diff. Those are all yeast infections.

Sure, it's not related! I have been battling this issue only 3 times in my life. But every time I had it, it got worse and couldn’t get rid of it unless I got a prescription from jy doctor, took the tablets many times… I’ve tried everything.

Finally had a learning experience last week. My Shaklee distributor recommended garlic tablets and I said, heck why not. You’ve got to try this! Instructions and suggestions are on this website http://www.completeproductline.com/webpage.asp?id=87 Good luck, and feel well soon.

Yes, Dr. Hottie! Tight clothes and/or underwear, uncleanliness, certain foods, or even certain medicines will trigger such an infection.
