I work in a large plant which I'm sure uses a lot of energy. How would I go about suggesting the use of green energy to my employers. BTW: I'm not in management, so I don't know how I would get listened to.

Suggest things that will save the company costs down the road. Solar panels and effecient bulbs have a high upfront cost but the energy saved can really lessen electricity costs. Same goes for installing a small recycled water treatment center onsite to turn waste water into potable water removing the building from city water costs.
Other efforts like recycling have no upfront costs and are just common sense and responsible things to do.

Look, Listen, and research.

You can find allot of information about what is going on with just looking, and listening.

Now research. You can call the power company and find out total costs for months, check out and see if there is any information on waist output through the EPA or other agencies. Also check out how many dumpsters are there. Also research tax incentives that the company might be eligible for.

Remember small amounts of energy build up look at things such as lights, vents, appliances. You’re not going to get them off the grid so go small.

Put your information together and try to get figures. Figures are important for a company.

Put all this information into a presentation. That is where your figures can be showed to the company in a professional manner. Include tax advantages, envirmental care, costs, savings and more.

Ask to speak to your direct supervisor and work up the line. Don’t waste their time with long speeches or presentations. Keep it short, sweet and to the point. After you have giving your views ask them if there is any other information that could help you put together a better presentation. Then ask them who to go to next. Ask them to help you. Who knows if you save your company money you may be entitled to a bonus.

Good luck and keep it professional

Start a petition and get as many people behind your cause as possible (even try to convince people in management to aid in your cause). And if you can prove that the business you work for would be more prosperous using green energy, or by going green in general, then that would help a lot.

Start your own business. Use green energy.

Mankind's CO2 output, including all the power generation, accounts for less than 1% of greenhouse gas emissions.

Far larger sources are decaying plants, evaporating water, volcanoes, and other "natural" sources of greenhouse gases.

let me be blunt, you had better get into their shoes before you suggest greening, or risk looking like a fool, o r getting "lip servie" in other words, don't approach them like they're stupid and money grabbing, purely profit motivated, mindless of the environment. also, realize that unless you have a less expensive form of energy for them, and their specific needs in each department do not get lessened due to implementing your suggestive approaches, don't bother.
