Hi,

Breathing pure oxygen would not be very good for you as you also need the impurities that are contained in natural air to survive.

Scuba diving is a classic example. Although their bottles contain normal compressed air they have to vary the impurity mix to cope with deep diving pressures.

Hyperventilation is another case. Sufferers are made to breathe into a brown paper bag so that they are absorbing their own impurities back into the body lowering the oxygen level.

Yes you can breath 100% O2. I'm an EMT, when we 'bag' patients in the box were providing 100%. Those masks you see people wearing give anywhere from 80-100%. The tubing that goes in the nose provides 24-44%. And theres this machine that breaths for you (FROPVD) that gives a full 100%.

Years ago there was a scuba introduced that allowed the diver to breathe pure oxygen. Because of the design, the small bottle of oxygen, about the size of today's pony bottles, allowed the diver to remain underwater for up to 4 hours!

Sorry but your husband's right. :(

i will "very honestly" carry my breath for fifty-fifty 5 seconds with atmospheric air. I purely held my breath with organic oxygen in my physique shape lab and "very honestly" held my breath for a hundred and fifty five seconds, or 2:35! i replaced into additionally being very careful by using fact I think of it wasn't thoroughly risk-free, or a minimum of I wasn't conscious of the disadvantages. almost 3X longer although! it variety of feels logical that going from %20 Oxygen in the ambience to %a hundred oxygen, you are able to still be waiting to hold 5X longer. that is greater complicated although, as CO2 tiers are whatpersistent you to sense such as you are able to desire to exhale. i think if somebody very in shape, and extremely saturated their physique with oxygen, expelling almost all CO2, they could get plenty longer.

our atmosphere is made up of 21% o2, scba equipment is compressed air... however, if you go to a hospital, or are on an ambulance, or are prescribed it (for ptswho are dying), o2 on a non rebreather mask, will allow you to breathe 100% o2

Yeah you can, it makes you feel high though. Haven't you ever been to Vegas? They have oxygen bars there, and thats what they give you is pure oxygen.

You can't do it for too long though.
