my boy friend smokes a lot, he recently visited the doctor and was told his lungs were black. He sometimes coughs up blood, does this mean hhe has cancer?

I hope he told the Doctor that he is coughing up blood, because it could be a very serious condition. The blood could be from the stomach, from the esophagus, from his throat, from his lungs or from his gums.His lungs are stained black from all that tar in the tobacco. It is hard to quit smoking, but he should seriously consider to set a quitting date.

not necessarily but it's highly possible. are they doing tests to confirm this? it could be emphysema as well.
