When I was in college, my friends and I always had fondue -- cheese for bread and vegetables; hot oil for beef, chicken and seafood; and, chocolate for stawberries, apples and pears. I bet you can still find some green fondue pots in consignment shops or places like the Salvation Army. It was a big deal in Boston and Cambridge.

While we weren't overly concerned about what we ate, a popular 1970s-style vegetarian sandwich was made with avocado, sprouts and cheese. During the 70s, the first Moosewood Cookbook was published. If you don't have a copy, I bet your local library does.

Bon Appetit. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.

Oh, yes, Julia Child introduced us to French cooking in the 60s and 70s.

There is a great website called " Hometown favorites" that has all types of discontinued food items from different decades........Check it out, you'll find tons of ideas & they are very reasonably priced as well.

I grew up in the 70's & the two foods I remember most are "Charlie Chips" - the Charlie Chip truck would come to your house & deliver fresh chips in a round can ( similar to the popcorn cans @ Christmas). I also remember chasing the "snoball man" down the road, screaming at the top of my lungs to STOP - I need 3 ( I had a little brother & little sister).......Your party sounds like a great idea - Enjoy!!

Your local op shop (or maybe you call it a thrift shop) will have old cookbooks from the 70's. Look for orange covers, and bad hairdo's! My father in law gave my partner his bachelor cookbook when he first moved out of home. I'd be delighted to send it to you, except I think he'd notice. :)

chocolate brownies, but you might want to leave out the marijuana, and have sugar cubes for the coffee. you might use food coloring to make psychedelic icing for the cake. I ate a lot of ramen in the 70s, but thats just me.
