There is no actual evidence that you can avoid becoming diabetic if you are pre-diabetic. So what I would do if I was you is to act as if I was already diabetic. The diabetic diet/exercise regime won't hurt a normal healthy person, and if you do become diabetic (or more diabetic) in the future, you won't do as much damage to your body.
What your fasting and post-prandial (after eating) numbers should be depends on who you listen to. I'd say under 120 fasting is good. Normally you test 2 hrs after eating, but depending on what you eat, the high point could be 1 or 2 or even 3 hrs after eating. Try to keep that under 160, but my diabetes nurse said 190, and the people on my e-mail list say 140.
You need to learn to eat fewer carbs, and test to see which kind you can tolerate best. I know, for instance, that I can eat half of a baked potato with no ill effects but half a cup of rice knocks my blood glucose numbers out of the ballpark. But everyone is different so you won't know until you do the experiments. Exercise is also VITAL, even if it's just walking for half an hour a day. You will also see how exercise brings down your blood glucose. I can have an apple or a pear before I go on my walk, otherwise it raises my blood glucose past the limit.
Your numbers are not too bad now, but when you need it, there are medicines that can also help. But it's best to do as much as you can by yourself and not depend on the medicines.
The thing about the diet/exercise thing, you have to do it for the rest of your life! So get into habits that are easy to keep.

some doctors say if its under 150 ok borderline. some say that its high anything over 100. well if its over 100 you are diabetic. period. start correcting the problem now and learn from this instead of waiting till its way high and you are in coma. all normal readings would be 100 or lower. 70 to 100. those other readings are abit high to me. yes i was told by good specialist that it generally peaks at 2 or 3am and i found that with my mom it did. that is when you check it and if its high and you are on insulin she needs to give herself some but shes regulated now. so anyhow that is how you do it. check your blood every 4 hours and it will help. if its leveled it can do day or so with out checking but the only way to tell is by doing this and checking it often. that is why we do our blood to make sure it isnt high if its high or very low (30's) it can mess organs up lose legs arms etc.

A range of 60 to 120 is normal. Just stay away from sugar and carbs.

Good question,,,,,I know it used to be they wanted a fasting blood sugar leverl to be 120 or below,,,,,I was gestational daibetic so they wanted it below 100/
The new way I am not certain,,,you doc should answer any questions you have and have literature for you to read.

well first i have to thank ideame for the simple brief good answer but in addition that one should keep his fasting diabetes at 99mg/dl but since this borderline have no turn back and one is falling from waterfall so only drugs for insulin resistance could help but it is still under trial for this use for prevention as it is used now as anti-diabetic examples is rosiglitazone named in market as avandia in England or pioglitazone named as actos or glustin in USA thanks for the asker it is really good question
