Before you try to conceive, you need to see a doctor and get examined to make sure you are healthy. You and your partner should get tested for STDs and HIV.

Anytime you engage in sex without a condom, you put yourself at elevated risk for contracting infections including HIV. Of course, the bacteria or viruses do need to be present for them to be transmitted. That's why it's vitally important for both partners to get tested first.

And in general, even if you are in a long-term, mutually monogamous relationship, maintaining a regular schedule (every 6 months) of STD screens is the healthy and responsible way to conduct your sex life.

Yes. If you want to have a baby with someone and you are concerned about HIV or STDs, you might want to consider a few things. First, why are you having a baby with someone if you aren't confident they are disease free? You should go together and both get tested. Not only would each of you be at risk for diseases, but some can be transferred to the child as well. Any time you are transmitting sexual fluids you are at risk of disease. And you have to trade fluids to get pregnant.

If the two of you are monagamous and have been checked for all the STD's then it will not put you at risk. If you are planning to try to concieve, I can only assume that you guys are only sleeping with each other and have been checked out and everything is cleaned. Otherwise, think hard and throughly about having a baby.

Generally you want to make sure that the person you are trying to make a baby with does not have HIV or STDs...or are you just out and about trying to have a baby with whoever will let you?

Wearing a condom does not protect you against and STD. It doesn't increase your risk but it is not 100% protection. You can still contract Herpes, HIV and other STDs while wearing a condom.

If you are worried about catching an STD, why on earth are you discussing having a child? I think you need to reconsider for everyone's benefit.
