Hello. This has been bothering me REALLY bad. My friend thinks she is a vegetarian even though she eats chicken. So i asked my other friend lauren if she could be a vegetarian if she eats chicken and she said no. I totally believe lauren with the no because she is one. And has been for 4 years. I trust her with that. But my friend just won't believe me so i need proof. Is it true that you cant be? Thanx for taking your time with this.
All i trually need to know is...

By definition no a vegetarian doesn't eat meat and a chicken is meat the vegetarian society website has a list of definitions of different types of vegetarian, although its probably not worth worrying about if she wants to call herself vegetarian its just a name.

No. Many use the term pescetarian to refer to just eating chicken and fish, but a vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat. If you eat chicken, you're eating a meat.

A vegetarian will not eat meat of any kind, no fish no chicken, nothing that has to die to be eaten. Vegetarians will eat eggs milk cheese etc. Vegans wont even eat that, they will eat nothing that came from an animal period. Your friend isnt a vegetarian, shes just a picky eater.

If it was once a living animal, vegetarians do not eat it. This includes chicken (last time I checked a biology text, birds were still members of the animal kingdom,) fish (ditto,) snails, worms, etc... No animals. Period.

NO. People may call themselves vegetarian, but I think vegetarianism is not eating any sort of meat.

Vegetarian means no meat at all. Meat is muscle and when you are eating chicken you are eating their muscle. So, you are eating the same things just off different animals. Your friend is an idiot.

Can you plant little chicken seeds and watch them sprout? No? What!!! You mean chicken is not a plant, it's an animal? Wait, don't vegetarians only eat plant based foods? So they can't eat animals, like *gasp* chicken? Who knew....

Vegetarian: a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc.

The truth is, you can call yourself anything. However it does not mean that you actually are what you call yourself. Think of it this way, I could call myself a teapot, but that does not make me one, and most people I told would just nod their head and say "ok" knowing full well I was not a teapot.

Vegetarian by definition(according to Websters): consisting wholly of vegetables , fruits, grains, nuts, and sometimes eggs or dairy products.
