Some Vegans are so thin and seem tired out while others are fit and well. Must mean that some do not eat the way they ought to. Like, the Hallelujah Diet which seems to be only salads and fruit. 80% raw 20% cooked. What is a good balanced vegan diet?

Vegans that are physically and emotionally fit and well are closet meat eaters on occasion. I know, I have a number of friends that love my sumptuous BBQ's. They also are extremely wealthy because they make a ton of money off of selling vegan products at exorbitant prices the vegans are willing to pay for any label that says, "Vegan approved" or some such drivel.

It's really a human matter, not just a vegan matter. Some people are very confused by nutrition and think consuming as little as possible of certain things = healthy and it doesn't. People who are fit and well probably eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, etc.

A good balanced vegan diet includes veggies and fruits, but also grains, pastas, beans, some tofu maybe, etc.

Because the people who are thin and tired do not understand the vegan diet. protien gives you energy, so they most likely do not eat beans or other protein rich vegan foods. They probably beleive that the vegan diet contains of a few pieces of lettuce a day. not true. you need to have protein whether you eat meat or not. My friend did it the wrong way and she quit but her doctor said she would of kept on going, she would have been in the hospital soon.
Hope that helped.

1. Some people just don't eat enough.
2. Some people have a higher metabolism than others.
3. There are junk food vegans who don't get proper nutrition.
This makes some of them skinny and the ones who eat too
much vegan junk food often have more weight than you
would think they would.
4. Some people have gland problems that affect their
weight one way or the other. You can file this under
heredity .

Alot of ppl don't realize the role of Detox. When u eat really simple, you may go into detox mode. Toxins will be stirred up and you'll get all sorts of sympoms(tiredness, nausia and headache are the most common. This junk is leaving the body and you're feeling the negitive effects all at once - instead of leaving the junk in you and feeling the negitive effects for the rest of your life.

When detox is over, you'll be one of the few modern ppl to feel how healthy you're REALLY meant to feel.

The more toxic you are, the worse detox is. Make a slow transition between any 2 diets. It will ease the detox and be healthier.

Also, everyone's different in their Genes and history.

I agree with the others, except for the meat comment. One of the reasons my sister-in-law went vegetarian is to lose weight. Yet, she still eats things like oversized coffee shop muffins, Frappuccinos or an equivalent, French fries, potato chips, full fat dressing, and other stuff I don't even consider food, let alone healthy.

The Vegan Food Pyramid that was suggested is a good one. I do my best daily to get my grains, protein (from beans, soy and occasionally veggie "meat" like veggie burgers, but I consider those a convenience food and not necessary for daily consumption), fruits and veggies daily, not for myself, but especially for my baby.

I eat good, whole, real foods. When I first learned of my pregnancy, I weighed about 170, which is healthy for my six foot tall frame.Eight, almost nine months later, I've only gained about 30 pounds. Since my pregnancy, what I put into my body has gained even more importance than before. Even little things, like ketchup has been changed. (I used to buy the conventional stuff when it would go on sale. I used to buy the Heinz for under a dollar with sale prices and coupons and I didn't use much to begin with. However, my husband and I have switched to all natural organic ketchup.)

My in-laws have a kitchen full of stuff I don't consider food, and don't eat very well. While they have had several health problems in the past year (they're both overweight and have trouble walking, they have had heart problems, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.), I don't see any efforts on their part to change their habits. My parents who are older than them, also eat things like meat and dairy and eggs that I no longer eat and have other things in their kitchen that I neither buy nor eat. However, they're active, they eat well overall (when I visit my parents I don't have to worry about taking a weekend's worth of food with me, including whole wheat bread, but maybe some veggie burgers or other protein sources and soy milk) and their health is decent. For them both being 65, they have some problems, like my dad has mild arthritis in his shoulder and my mother didn't heal as well when she fell a couple of years ago and broke a couple of toes and her shoulder. Overall, though I'm not worried about their helath the way I am my in-laws'.

Meat eating or not, it's just boils down to what one does to take care of himself.

Well, same reason some meat eaters are thin and some are fit and well.Just because they are both vegan doesn't mean they both have good eating habits, some people have small body frames and have always been thin, and some people just have better natural physiques.

Vegan food pyramid(I think this is a good basic guideline):

I do a modified HA but I get allot of information & recipes from Dr, John McDougalls newsletters.

HA is considered ideal as it promotes people to get as close to nature as possible. The sucess rate for healing in way above average. I think too many people equat thin with fit. It's not enough to be thin one must exercise. Muscle is the difference to being truely healthy at any age.
