I've been having these symptoms for months ...coughing,night sweats, chills, body aches, back aches, less eating, lost 12 lbs in 2 mths without trying.I thought it was because of menopause, drinking more water and exercise.Today I found out that my friend who I see often, kiss hello, eat, talk & laugh with has active tb and had it for 1 year.I work in a school yearround, my mom has a lung disease already. Could I have spread this to all the people I've been in contact with? I'm really scared. I will be tested in 5 days when my Dr. returns from vacation.

Yes, it is very possible that some people got infected. I am sure your Doctor will ask everybody from school to get checked. You only know, that you have been exposed to Tb for 1 year, but haven't been checked just yet and you don't know for sure. Night sweats, chills are signs of menopause, and exercising and drinking more water makes you loose weight, so maybe you are okay after all. I don't think you would have the strenght to exercise with TB and you would also run a fever and feel fatigued. Good luck!

I am no doctor, but I do work in a hospital laboratory, I would say that if you truly are having these symptoms and have been exposed, then you 99.9% certainly have tuberculosis. Unfortunately it is very likely that you have exposed everybody you have been in close contact with. I'm not being negative, I just know how highly contagious it is and it is unfortunate what you are facing but it is what it is and what you need to do is GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM TOMORROW, call ahead, tell them the situation so that they can make sure you come in not exposing anyone else! they will come to you masked and give you a mask and then you are not going to be at risk of exposing others. DO NOT WAIT 5 DAYS TO SEE A DOCTOR, DO NOT!!! GO NOW!!!! every day you are in public you are spreading it around. good luck, I hope that I am wrong but it doesnt sound like I am. and by the way it is EXTREMELY irresponsible of your doctors office to tell you to wait 5 days to get in.. GRRR

It depends on the type of TB, but essentially yes. TB is very complex- spores can lie dormant in you lungs for up to 40years after exposure. TB is usually airbourne and can stay in the air for 3-4 hours. If you test positive then the government has to be ntified (thats in US, UK, NZ and AUS)- as it is a notifiable disease. If you test positve the school children will probably all be tested and vaccinated.

If you choose negetive, you may choose to get vaccinated so you can visit your friend.

Some of the symptoms you display are for TB, but by now it would have been expected to get worse. You amy just have a chest infection. Perhaps you shouldn't wait til your doctor gets back go to another one in the surgury- and DEFINALLY dont visit your friend or go to work til you visit a dr.

TB can be treated quite easily today and very few people die.
