I am a Type 1 Diabetic and I LOVE peanut butter... I eat the all-natural kind...Unfortunately, I do not love the calories that come with it... is it true, that when your bloodsugar are low, your body is able to burn calories at a much faster rate. Would you suggest/allow having peanut butter during a low bloodsugar? Thanks

yes and no. Don't use peanut butter alone to treat a low. It won't work. You can treat with a fast acting sugar like a few ounces of juice then follow up with peanut butter to keep the sugar steady. As long as you are not eating loads and loads of peanut butter it should be fine in moderation anytime. Its like saying steak is good but I'l only it it when I'm low.

LOL! I wish that were true. Sorry to say it isn't. In fact for some diabetics who have had a lot of hypo episodes, after going on the pump will loose weight because they no longer have to eat as much to keep themselves stable. Peanut butter is good to help your blood sugar from dropping, but take some other quick acting sugar with it too.

Have you checked with your doctor on this question. I use peanut butter sometimes but I am type 2. Not sure if you burn calories any faster but it helps keep the blood sugar up. I would talk to my endo to be sure. It is a lot of calories but if you count it as a snack then you can make it part of your daily intake.

In addition to some fast-acting sugar, yeah! Peanut butter is good because it has sugar in it, too, so it will keep your sugar up for awhile, too. At diabetes camp they used to give us peanut butter on graham crackers if we were low. Sooo good. :)
I'm not sure about the calorie burning thing, but that sounds interesting...!!
